#Leafs trade David Steckel to Anaheim Ducks for RW Ryan Lasch and Anaheim’s seventh-round pick in 2014 Draft.

There are going to be some people that are not too happy about Steckel going for so cheap.

I wonder if this trade started from a phone inquiry regarding Perry.

Not really what the Canucks would need right now. If we just needed face off wins, manny would be playing still. We need someone who can contribute in all three zones. Decent pick up for Ana but not stellar.

Or then of course there's always the Ferry

Also,
I'm putting together a list of the criteria to be a "real" Canuck's fan. So far I have this:

1. I cheer for the Canucks, whatever happens.
2. I never say anything bad about the Canucks.
3. I know the difference between "real" fans and posers just by how they post on the CDC or where they sit at GM Place.
4. I wouldn't dream of leaving a game before it ended, even if it meant missing a train, ferry or a threesome with the wife and her hot best friend?
5. I make 10+ posts a day and I have over 10,000 posts on the CDC, so my Canuck "street-cred" is huge. Go away noob!
6. No one F's with me. I train in MMA. I'm really tough. I'll curb stomp yo' donkey.
7. I make a tonne of $$$$.
8. I'm witty.
9. If it meant missing a game, I wouldn't study for a midterm.
10. I roll with a guy who has a wicked car.
11. I like to post "source?" a lot.

Lasch is just a body the Ducks needed to get rid of for flexibility. He had negligible value in this trade, I think.

Lasch is an undersized 26 year old right handed centre, having played a few seasons in Sweden. Maybe sort of an Ebbett's kind of player.

To get Steckel, a good face-off man with size and willingness to bang bodies (i.e., Crosby), for what looks like a long shot prospect and a late draft pick looks like a steal...maybe Nonis owed Burkie a favor.

Steckel's one of those guys you like having on your roster, whether he's playing or not, for the playoffs...his size and decent offensive output throughout his career as fourth line centre would probably have served us well for the playoffs. He's also a cheap 1.1MM cap hit UFA in 2013.

Too bad there's so much bad blood between us and the Leafs...
I'd have taken Steckel for that price anyday.

He is not a player Vancouver needs and he won't make or break a team. Depth yes, not the depth player Vancouver needs.

The Ducks have had a somewhat revolving door system on their fourth line much of the year (at centre specifically, Holland, McMillan and others). Steckel should resolve that for them I think.

I hope MG aims a little higher up the line-up.

I wouldn't mind Steckel for depth but there are bigger fish to fry. Steckel would have helped if we could fix our other issues but would be pointless if we don't.

Steckel's taken a step back this season, but he'll still win draws.

Ducks in do or die mode this season with Perry's upcoming UFA status and Teemu's likely retirement.

Neither really, Steckel's been a healthy scratch for the Leafs after other players have been better. When he was in the lineup, he was only playing 7 minutes a night. He's still a big body and good at faceoffs, but he's not the player people were thinking of when he played for the Caps and he won't bring much offence or skill in open play to the table.

I hope MG aims a little higher up the line-up.

I wouldn't mind Steckel for depth but there are bigger fish to fry. Steckel would have helped if we could fix our other issues but would be pointless if we don't.

That sums up my feeling on Steckel nicely.

We don't need any more crap depth. Time to go for some actual skill.

"What players need is the right kind of strength and power. That includes learning to understand that leverage and positioning can be just as important as raw strength when it comes to winning battles in the game. It's more about timing and athleticism --and avoiding injury--than it is about how much you can bench press. I don't know how many times I've seen a guy with the physique of a defensive end line up a guy half his size, only to bounce off when he connects. Sure, there is room in the game for big guys who can throw their weight around. But for the most part, players are smart enough to see them coming--and strong enough to protect the puck when they arrive. There are trainers out there who know how to devlop hockey-specific strength--though a trainer can help only if a player follows the program. All too often, I've seen players sign up with the best trainer, but not show up for their workouts and never to reap the benefits."

I'd rather not waste a roster spot on Steckel. I'd rather make a significant move than a couple useless ones.

Vancouver currently needs anyone who can take some faceoffs.

Anaheim is what, 20-3-3? I believe I heard that they're third last in the league in faceoff percentage. Faceoffs don't tell that much of a story.

Think bigger, folks. Stop pondering why MG isn't picking up any person that becomes available.

Classic CDC logic:

1) A player was traded
2) The Canucks did not acquire that player
3) Therefore, the Canucks did not attempt to acquire that player
4) WTF Gillis!

The fact that Gillis didn't acquire Steckel doesn't mean he didn't try.

There is an apparent rocky relationship between the Vancouver and Toronto front offices. Meanwhile, Toronto and Anaheim have a history of making trades. I bet Nonis would take a 7th round pick from Anaheim before he accepted a 6th round pick from the guy who took his job in Vancouver.

As of today, we're 22nd in the league (48.1%) while Anaheim is 27th (46.9%). Boston is first with 57.1%.

Maybe for some, but not for all on the CDC...it could very well be that many of us on the CDC like myself are musing, "hmmmmm, could very well have been a decent pickup for the Canucks..."...nothing more, nothing less.
