Henrik Kesler
Personally, I like the pieces that CBJ has the best. Yes Johnasen would be awesome, but Boone Jenner ++ could also be a good since you're essentially acquiring a 9 year younger Kesler that is a bit more developed than Kes at that age. DeNiro
I hope you guys are right and I'm wrong, if we land this kid. I seriously do. I judge prospects on their career achievements. He is 20 playing in Portland. Maatta is 19 playing regular minutes for now for the Penguins. Maata is a much safer player who makes calm decisions under pressure. That's why he's able to play in the NHL at a younger age. Pouliot takes more chances but has a much higher reward factor. Players like him usually take a little longer to develop because they have to spend time learning when to be aggressive and when not to be. Warhippy
I don't think Columbus GM is gonna give up youth for Kesler, he is the type of GM that loves youth That's true. He's also stockpiled quite a bit already though and they are a young team. I think both JD and JK are also anxious to make waves in their market though. Kesler isn't a rental and is a prime marketing tool in the USA directly after the Olympics. It makes sense for them to make a move at some point. I think it's fair to note Kesler would be a huge draw for columbus as he spent almost 5 years playing in Ohio. As well I was pretty loud leading up to the draft about dealing Kesler to Columbus for jenner and a couple of picks. And finally, Kesler gives Columbus something they don't have yet. An almost guaranteed shot at the playoffs. Youth is good, but redundant youth, not so much. We have redundant youth at LHD. Columbus is going to have redundant youth at the c position very soon with jenner Rychel Umberger Johansen Atkinson Wennberg and more in their system. Jenner + Rychel + 1st for Kesler gives them a solid shut down PP specialist player that they'll have to wait for Jenner to develop into. Losing a single prospect a redundant player in jenner (if Kesler is brought in) and a pick is not too terribly bad if the actual return is entrance into the playoffs, improved recognition via local star and more merch sales. Herberts Vasiljevs
I think for our situation I'd prefer a deal with Columbus. I really like Bennett and Pouliot but Jenner and Wennberg is pretty attractive. Schenn is the only piece I see Philly possibly moving to make them a player in this game. Tough call. It would all come down to the other things included for me. Yes, very tough decision indeed... all look super intriguing and I wouldn't complain about any. If anybody, I'd prefer a deal with Columbus. Pouliot or Schenn would also make me happy though.
CB007
Definitely. If this guy was in our system people would be drooling over him. Trust me, he's gonna be a stud, and fans will whine that we didn't take him while we could. Our forward pool is starting to look pretty decent. Horvat, Kassian, Jensen, Shinkaruk, Gaunce, Cassels, Lain, Grenier and Archibald are all solid young players that will fill top 6 and bottom 6 positions. We just need that top offensive centerman and we're good. We need to start shoring up our D though. Counting on Subban to be our elite puck moving D-man might be a bit hopeful. Verrry speculative.... most of them have not played a single game in the NHL....
Herberts Vasiljevs
I think Pittsburgh is going to overpay big time in the end. They know they don't have some of the assets we want like Columbus and Philly do, yet they seem to want him the most. Folks, no matter what team, I see an awesome return coming our way if Kesler is indeed traded. Besides, look how he's played in the last two games for us... teams want this guy, and I see PIT overpaying since they don't have a the Jenner/Schenn types. Either PIT will overpay, or we will get the kind of return we have wanted all along from one of PHI or CBJ. That's my guess. Exciting times ahead indeed. Millerdraft
TEAM Radio @TEAM1040 31s Rossi: "Ray Shero has told Vancouver he'll best any offer they get (for Kesler)" Good. Yeah, about those 2015 & 2016 1st round picks...
Down by the River
Biggest downside of acquiring Maata would be all the terrible puns we'd inevitably be subjected to, especially from NHL.com.

DeNiro
Verrry speculative.... most of them have not played a single game in the NHL.... Which is why they're called prospects. Lain, Kassian, and Archibald have all shown that they can play at the next level. Shinkaruk, Jensen, and Horvat all have high end talent that if developed properly should translate into top 6 players. And between Cassels, Gaunce, and Grenier there's at least one solid bottom 6 player there. This is the best batch of prospects this organization has ever had. hsedin33
We need to get a trade offer out in public that is better then what Pittsburgh is currently offering us because right now if I'm the Columbus GM and I know what Pittsburgh is currently offering I only have to offer Brandon Dubinsky, A Top Prospect (Alex Wennberg or Kerby Rychel) and a 1st Round Draft Pick and I've already done better the Pittsburgh. It doesn't really matter, MG will simply tell any team who makes an offer what they should offer, MG is a patient man, too patient in fact, look at Luongo. But all MG needs to do is make a counter offer and teams will know what is needed.
Craig Ferguson
What is so funny? Kunitz is only putting up those numbers because he's playing with the best player in the league, giving up 2 huge assets for a guy that probably won't do anything on our team + one first rounder would have gillis burned at the stake. Kes, Edler can fetch us minimum 3 to 5-6 assets easily.
Smashian Kassian
Maybe we should just stack up on D and ask for Pouliot and Harrington. Those two together could be an absolute stud pairing. Pouliot, Harrington, Sutter, and a 1st. We don't get our top center, but maybe that could be accomplished in an Edler trade. Our D is fine, Harrington & Pouliot are both close to NHL ready, and we don't exactly have room for them (plus we already have some defenseman like Corrado & Hutton in our system) I would rather target Bennett before Harrington or Sutter, we lack young high end offensive players in our organization that can play now.
