Hockeyforlife16
To Leafs - Joe Thornton - 2015 3rd round pick To Sharks - James van Riemsdyk - 2016 2nd round pick (changes to a 4th if Thornton gets less then 70 points) What do you think of the value? Neymar
JVR is great for the leafs right now. I don't think they would let him go for a slow oldy

Lonny_Bohonos_14
As far as value goes, drop the Toronto pick or Holland and I think it's close. That said TO would need to shed some extra salary to make this work. Leafs get fleeced. How do they get fleeced? JVR is good, but Jumbo Joe is the better player. Long-term this deal might not make much sense for the leafs, but Thornton fills a need they have had since Sundin left.
IBatch
Switch Thornton to Marleau and it's looking pretty even.

A team like the Leafs that has some horrible contracts on it can't afford to trade their best contract for one that is 8M, let alone the fact that JVR is a decade younger........ Pimp C
Switch Thornton to Marleau and it's looking pretty even. A fair trade would be Pavelski and 2nd rounder for JVR or something like that.
SkeeterHansen
JVR and Kessel are an incredible duo. Doubt the Leafs even consider getting rid of him, unless Pavelski/Couture are involved in a package.

Toronto could probably find a younger, cheaper center for JVR if they wanted to.
William_Clarkson
It'd make no sense for Toronto. They're still a team for the future more than anything and Thornton only has a few years left. Toronto should their 1st line center and just have Bozak stay there for now. Of course, a lot of Leaf fans seem to think they have a realistic chance at getting Stamkos. Trading JVR may be a decent idea for some young defenseman or even a young center, but I'd hold onto him for now, he has chemistry with Kessel. JeremyCuddles
They (Leafs) should be looking to dump some cap. Currently they look like they are trying for another top 10 pick. Jumbo Joe is 10 years older then JVR. And JVR has a great contract. Maybe Phaneauf for Thorton, but not likely.
Phil_314
The Sharks would win this deal easily; Thornton's getting up there in years and the team will go forward with Couture and Pavelski as their centers, while the Leafs still have Bozak, Santo and Kadri as their top 3 centers and don't really need to add another at that price. Also don't forget about the chemistry that Kessel has had with J.V.R. and how the Leafs don't have the same depth on left wing (next in line would probably be Winnik, Booth or Komarov). We'd likely hear "Fire Nonis" in Toronto if they did that deal.

Mimerez
JVR and Kessel have lots of chemistry between the two. And Bozak played like a 1C last year.
Canuck Surfer
Trade would help TO, short term, big time! Strength up the middle with a former league MVP and scoring champ at 225 lbs. But TO could fast become the Calgary Flames of 2 years ago if they give up what few good young guys they have. I don't do it if I'm TO. Still guys are mistaken if they don't think Joe makes them much better. He adds size and moxy, plus more points than JVR. And TO has speed elsewhere. So, say, Kadri and Kessell could play with Bozak on the 1st line, Joe could mop up. Who else can handle the puck for their practically last place puck possession game? Joe could play 1st PP and a 2knd line with Booth and Lupul. Suddenly both would be 30 goal scorers! edit: forget it being JVR. Think about trading Luke Schenn for Thornton? Rex425
Bozak is a 3rd line center But he played LIKE a 1st liner last year. Not hard to understand. And I'd say he's a second liner. And no, I do NOT like the leafs.
