[Discussion] Thoughts on Lucic to Vancouver?

Recommended Posts

So with all the salary cap problems Boston can potentially have this summer, with resigning Dougie Hamilton as top priority, there have been discussions around the league about Lucic probably being the guy to be traded out of Boston if they have to clear some cap space. Lucic has 1 year left on his contract with a cap hit of $6 mill and I can see Boston making the choice of rather losing Lucic and getting something in return rather than learning at this time next year they can't afford him and will just lose him for nothing.

I know it sounds crazy to bring up the idea of Milan "scumbag/nutshot" Lucic in Vancouver, but based on Benning's Boston connection I can see him at least making a couple calls about the opportunity or atleast to see what Boston would want in return. Plus everyone talks about how Vancouver needs that big physical presence on offence more than anything and despite all the scumbag crap Lucic has done, any team (except Montreal) would want to make an offer to acquire him. And of course he's from Vancouver and won the memorial cup with the giants don't forget. Also, despite how a lot of fans see Lucic as around here, I bet if he became a canuck most of them will all of a sudden be all excited to see him, Canuck fans anyway (particularly the bandwagon ones) seem to be pretty quick at changing their minds from loving someone to hating them and vice versa (Luongo as a prime example), at least that's how I see it.

In conclusion, would you be greatly against the idea of Benning trading for Lucic and would rather eat your own puke? Or can you see Lucic in Vancouver potentially working out and everyone moves on from what happened in the past? In terms of who Boston would want in return, I haven't really thought that much into it yet, but I would imagine at least Kassian would go the other way since Boston kept asking for him last season.

It would be a very tough spot to put Lucic in, almost impossible for him. Too much attention, a lot of it negative and if he got off to a slow start the radio and newspapers would never shut up..

Yeah agreed, that's the main thing that would probably stop this deal from working. With how Lucic has been treated here before I wouldnt be at all surprised if he said he wouldn't want to come to Vancouver. But in terms of the media bit, they do that to everybody and I bet you Lucic has heard criticism in Boston when he goes on a slump, especially through last season.

Stopped reading when you started talking about eating your own vomit. Grossed me out. You should try coming up with a less disgusting example.

On Lucic I'd wait 1 more year until he's UFA and then try to sign him. This is a rebuilding team, no need to give up young players, prospects or draft picks. I think Benning is trying to acquire young players and picks so I don' see a trade for Lucic happening.

Agreed. Rather just wait for UFA and then if Lucic fits the team's plans, add him without giving up assets.

Should be pretty easy to send him the message that we're interested (if that's part of Benning's plan), while still avoiding any outright tampering.

Leave it up to Lucic to decide whether or not he wants to come play for his home town when he hits free agency. And only sign him if that's a factor and some degree of home town discount is in play (otherwise not interested if we need to outbid everyone else and offer silly money for this player).

But absolutely no interest in spending good assets to acquire Lucic only one year before he hits UFA. We're not gearing up for a run next year so we can wait. And so can Lucic (if he wants to play in Vancouver).

Lucic is exactly what this team needs. It was glaringly obvious that this team lacked the pushback and ferocity required against the Flames, who were a beatable team.

This idea that his style of play and dirty antics aren't what the Canucks need is just ridiculous. This isn't polo or croquette, it's hockey.

Also, Lucic has made amends with his hometown and that was mentioned in a news article over a year ago.

If Lucic is available and wants to come here, you can bet that Benning will explore it. Lucic is a Stanley Cup champion and was a large part (figuratively and literally) of the reason the Bruins beat us.

Canucks fans still butthurt about 2011 need to get over it and look into the future.
