Gstank29
Just thought some people would be interested in what Benning had to say http://www.tsn.ca/video/nhl/benning-believes-culture-change-will-improve-canucks~703460 Will post a summary later -confident the Sedins will have a good season -Still wants the Sedins to play limited minutes -Doesnt know who will play with the Sedins, will try a couple of different combo in the preseason -Vrbata was on the second line to spread out the scoring -Sutter was aquired to "fill in a gap between the new and old core" -Sutter is a good two way player who is always on the right side of the puck, hes a big centre who can match up against the Getzlafs and Kopitars -Benning expects Baertschi to be ready, say that Baertschi has worked hard to get stronger this season -Thinks Prust is more consistent than Kassian, Benning say he watch Prust a lot and likes is intangibles -Horvats role this year will be up to him -Virtanen is no lock for the team, says he offers a skill set that the team doesn't have. Mentioned he had a good summer and has put in the work -IF Virtanen is ready they will make a spot for him -Thinks that for the first time the Canucks have depth in there farm system -Will miss Bieskas leadership, but wanted to get faster on the back end (talked about Bartowski and Corrado) -Bartowski might get some top 4 time during the preseason, happy we got more mobile -Has sat down with Vrbata and Hamhuis, wants to see where the Cap is before making a decision -Had amatuer scouting meetings this week -Had Boeser ranked really high, said he is happy he "fell" to then -Extremely comfortable with having Miller as a starter, still thinks he is a top flight goalie -Like the progression Markstrom showed last year, really likes he mental toughness -Would like the number 1 to play 55 games, backup to play 25-30 -Willie is doing good, watch the game on live stream -Thinks Willie will be on the bench for the opener -Thinks the team is faster and is going to be harder to play against -Looks at the Detroit model, older players taught the younger players what it means to be a Canuck, hold them accountable
thejazz97
We're never interested in what Benning has to say, only in criticizing the moves he makes without a second thought on the matter

baumerman77
It sounds like he has a spot penciled-in for Virtanen.
Magikal
I think the best way to improve the Canucks would be to slash ticket prices.

BananaMash
In my opinion this means we're trading the Sedins for Nurse and Moroz.
The Weasel
I think the best way to improve the Canucks would be to slash ticket prices. With Sbisa's salary, he should at least be selling popcorn during intermissions.
cripplereh
Benning is bringing in team leadership, toughness, getting younger and altogether keeping us competative!I like we btought in someone to not only clean up the mess of a team we had,but getting players he likes! thejazz97
Sounds like Baertschi's gotten stronger this year. Honestly really excited to see Baer and lil Linden play this year. I think they'll surprise a lot of people.

Screw the popcorn have him help with the important stuff like beer. The lineups for beer are ridiculous.
winthecup
The Chiarelli interview after the Benning interview is interesting too.
Junkyard Dog
Screw the popcorn have him help with the important stuff like beer. The lineups for beer are ridiculous. If they were smart they'd hire huge athletic guys to carry a cold keg on their back and cups on them. Then during stopages have these huge guys rush through each row selling beer. Junkyard Dog
Who would you say is the smarter manager? It is too early to tell since JB has been a GM for one season but as of now Chiarelli obviously. He's been one longer and made a bunch of key trades during his tenure as Bruins GM. That doesn't Benning is a horrible GM though.
Maginator
I was at the youngstars game today vs. Winnipeg, Virtanen was quite dominant. I can see him making the big squad this year.
Stormriders
What I thought was telling, was with all the talk about defense, the name 'Sbisa' was not brought up by Benning once. Especially with new big contract he just signed him to.

Especially with new big contract he just signed him to. 10.8M/3 years? Not big in the grand scheme IMO, especially if the cap continues to climb. Not even Benning's biggest contract. Don't get me wrong. I do think we overpaid slightly for Sbisa's contract but not nearly as much as a lot of people here think. With the amount of cap coming in next year while more and more young players come in replacing vets I don't see us reeling from lack of cap space moving forward.
