[Discussion] What would you do for Duchene?

Recommended Posts

After today's lovely media availability, it has become even clearer that Duchene does not have a future in Colorado (so long as Sakic et. all are there).

At the draft they reportedly wanted at least 3 pieces:
1 - Top Pairing Potential NHL Defenceman under 25

2 - High level prospect

3 - 1st round pick

Now that has to have come down a little, but Duchene is a hell of a hockey player (and would look great on Horvats Left Side with Boeser on the Right, no offence to Sven).

Would you give up this package for it?
1 - Tanev
2 - Brisebois/Subban

3 - Gaudette/Lockwood

Now the downside is the risk he doesn't want to resign in Vancouver, because in all likelihood the canucks aren't going to be in the playoffs in his current contract (2 years) and are definitely not going to be contenders in that timeline.

Thoughts?

meh, Sakic has managed to negotiate himself out of a reasonable deal. Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up losing Duchene for very little next TDL.

A true top pairing D under 25 and a prospect is very reasonable for Duchene. If Sakic wants picks too, then he needs to come down to a top 4 D, so something like this:

Hutton and our 2019 1st but only if we get to negotiate an extension before the trade is completed.

As long as it doesn't include Horvat, Boeser, Joulevi, Pettersson, Dahlen, or our 2018 or 2019 1st rd pick I am game.... If its a reasonable trade ofc.

I'd consider the 2019 only because with Duchene and Bo as the 1-2 Cs and Juolevi able to step into Huttons spot we may actually make the wildcard that season. But not the 2018 1st.

Only reason 2019 is a no go is I don't see us drastically improving until a goaltender steps in of a higher caliber. Maybe he goes to Carolina ? I believe they have good D prospects if I'm not mistaken...

I may be the odd man out here, but I wouldn't give much for Duchene at the moment.  We are, for all intents and purposes, rebuilding.  If we trade prospects and picks we are prolonging the agony for a player that may or may not stay.  Let's say he get him, where does he slot in? I'm kind of hoping Hank and Bo are Line 1 and 2 Centers. I don't think he's the answer for the Canucks, not unless Sakic really wants Eriksson.  I'd consider moving a prospect, pick and Eriksson for sure, if only to dump the contract....but that's basically Ballard. Raymond and 1st and Super Joe wouldn't take it.  He will end taking less than he wants though, I would wager a Banh Mi sandwich on it.

I think that Sakic overplayed his cards, and will have to take a much lower return than expected.  Duchene is not a player you build a team around, he is more of a complimentary piece.  He is a 40-60 point, 20 goal scorer who is a minus player, save for a few exceptions.  I don`t see him returning much more than a B prospect, 2nd round pick and a roster player.

I am not sure I would offer this, but it would probably get it done:

Hutton

Lind

2019 2nd

Tanev

Tryamkin before everyone gets mad. I love this guy, his number 1 fan. He seems through with the Canucks for now anyway.

2nd round pick next year

Why would sakic go for this? I dunno but it would be pretty sweet to lose minimal for Duchene.

Wait... Tanev, Tree and a 2nd?!! That's ludicrous. Duchene peaked in 2014... you can argue he's overpaid at 6 million even.

If we're giving Tanev, I need something coming back on top of Duchene.

I think he's a fit for any team that wants to rebuild even. At 26 he's got a great skill set and could still be incredibly valuable but at 6 million and 41 points... the asking price from Sakic is outrageous.

If he can take a fair price I'd do the trade.

Duchene + 2nd for Tanev

or

Duchene For Sutter + 3rd
