  1. Canucks select the defenceman with the highest upside in this draft, Tom Willander, a mean piece of business, who is right handed. They fill a very big positional need

Is "highest upside in this draft" your own personal assertion? I haven't heard any one else say this.

If anything he's the safest Dman in the class...

He was my third favourite defender, though... and there were two picked ahead of him. So I don't have any issue with pick whatsoever.

I genuinely don't believe there are many true powerhouses in this league. Boston is the only truly dominant team, and a lot of their players are on the older side. Parity makes this league a lot more interesting, and things change substantially from year to year.

I also genuinely don't believe many teams have three better impact players than Petey, Huggy, and Demmer. If we make smart choices in the next 12-24 months, we can keep up with any of these teams.

  3. If Canucks somehow win #2 or #3, I’d trade that pick along with the next 4 1st rounders and our best prospects for #1

I still think there's gotta be a GM we can confuse with an offer around our spare Elias Pettersson.

  4. Random question. Is there some sort of rule against a team signing a goaltender that's just a dude so obese that he fills up the entire net?

    1. nergish

      nergish

Somebody that heavy would blow out their knees pretty quickly.

Look at Robin Lehner's injury history - he's the heaviest goaltender in the league.

Ben Bishop was tall and heavy, and also eventually succumbed to injury.

This is why Ian Clark is constantly chasing "length". Not necessarily size, mass, heft... just really long, flexible limbs.

  6. Sometimes I wonder, is Bedard the next Crosby / MacKinnon / Stamkos, or is he the next Yakupov / Stefan / Daigle?  Or somewhere in between?

Brayden Point / Cole Caufield / Steve Yzerman

      A wickedly unique player.

I still think he's more like the next Brayden Point.

Who has likely been the best playoff performer over the last three post-seasons...

  8. Bruce had this team go 32-15-10 after he got here last season. If my math is correct, that’s a .68 win percentage. Now that clip probably wasn’t sustainable over a full 82 games, but injuries and all that aside did anyone really expect us to fall off like this? I’m not sure what happened between the end of last season and now but my god.

      Demko.

      Poor start, then injury.

This team was never going anywhere without him playing at the top of his game night-after-night.

    1. nergish

      nergish

Quinn could play any position on the ice and still be our best player. Not concerned at all.

**though Demko might have something to say about that**

  10. nj has a lot of rd prospects. it would be great to get a couple.

    mukhamadullin and a 6'5" swedish d-man.

If we traded JT for Mukhamadullin one-for-one, that would be a complete wash.

Obviously I was devastated we lost, but I often remember that Boston was missing Marc Savard in those playoffs.

He was legitimately one of the highest IQ finesse players in the league at that time, and would have helped them tremendously. Our team was not cheated, we just lost.

Two powerhouse offensive teams with mediocre-at-best goaltending. It's called the "Chris Osgood method".

  13. can you trade miller and boeser and completely change this team into a playoff contender?

    1. nergish

      nergish

There has to be some very specific targets in trading Miller, namely a young RHD 6'2+ with good skating and high offensive instincts.

      Basically, Brandt Clarke.

      B. Schneider being another promising young RHD, but we'd arguably want somebody who's even more skilled with puck.

I am totally onboard with a major shakeup involving some of our best players, but only if we're getting back that elusive RHD Unicorn we've been chasing for a decade +.

We're looking for the next Mo Seider here.

  15. Boeser to NJD for Zacha and a 1st?

    1. nergish

      nergish

      I would.

Could mean getting Jiricek, Nemec, or even Shane Wright.

Zacha has always passed the eye-test for me, but the bust potential reminds of a lot of top-6 tweener guys we tried in the Benning era.

We'd have to sell Boeser as the dream winger for J. Hughes.

I can only imagine how useful a 6'3 Dman with his skillset would have been on our cup run...

Columbus made out like bandits on that trade tbh

  19. Okay, so when are we going to start talking about Aaron Ekblad? As of right now, he has 22 points (8 goals) in almost 23 games played. Holy cow...

      nergish

That gnarly injury he had last season took him out of what was another fantastic campaign. Glad that he was able to continue his trajectory.

  20. would you trade miller to the rangers for k'andre miller, braden schneider, dryden hunt and a 2nd round pick?

  21. feel like this isn't being acknowledged enough but Thatcher Demko has been phenomenal so far this year

    1. nergish

      nergish

He's been phenomenal at every level he's ever played.

At what point is he not just... a phenomenal goaltender?

  22. Please stop making Quinn Hughes trade proposals.

    1. nergish

      nergish

All this talk about Rathbone walking in and replacing Quinn is laughable. QH is literally a unicorn, once in a franchise type player.

People forget how young this guy is, too. His career has barely started.

  23. Would you take Gillis over Benning?

    1. nergish

      nergish

Gillis is a better sound byte, that's for sure.
But no, I would take the drafting in Benning's tenure over whatever Gillis did any day of the week.

    1. nergish

      nergish

I haven't watched it yet, but I'm excited to.

The show Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet from Apple TV+ did a quarantine episode earlier in lockdown where each actor had to use their iPhone to shoot their scenes. They managed to make it seamless.

It was hilarious, timely, emotional, and exceptionally done.

I can only imagine what Matt and Trey have to say about everything going on though... I'll probably watch it tonight.
