I think these are the targets. Zegras, Newhook, Broberg and I have no/few questions. Krebs and Soderstrom give me pause as I feel they are the safer picks but we are still in need of difference makers through the draft and those last two don’t feel like those players.

That is a pretty good D core. I would be happy with that moving forward. When Tanev goes does it would be the following: Hughes Myers Joulevi Tryamkin Hutton Stetcher Schenn

That would even protect him from the new Nordiques.

I assume this would be a substitute/upgrade on Bachman. I think you want a number 1 in Utica that is still pushing for a job in the NHL so when he makes it it creates some competition. Bachman is clearly just an AHL goalie and wasn't the best fill in at the NHL level this year. Like the guy, but could also be good for DiPietro to have a a guy in Utica also competing with him to make the show.

I'd be very happy with this. As long as Lucic is available for the expansion draft I am good with this idea. I think it works for both teams.

It’s a good debate and to be honest I like both players. We’d be good shape if we got whoever was available of the two at 10.

Agreed on Gardiner being a liability but if something weird happens with Edler and he is not signed I see Benning adding something to the left side. I think Benning will feel a bit of pressure to ensure the team advances vs staying the course. I’ll hope it’s option 1 on LHD and 1/2 on RHD

It’s a good debate as they would both be good adds. I see Newhook as a Kapanen/Ehlers like and Cozens as a Nolan Patrick like. Both valuable additions to the team. I still go Cozens as I think he brings more overall.

90% of his statements are just his best guess thoughts not far from what we do here. He just puts on a serious face and says “Look, here is what I think will happen....” and it rarely does because nobody is that close to the actual convos.

I think 9 out of 10 would say Cozens myself included. I’m thinking Newhook is a great pick for us however as I bet Cozens is gone by 6.

Not a huge fan of Duchene but there is merit to the signing. Just put him on wing but you have the option to move to center if there is an injury to Petey or Bo. I really think Sutter is gone and Gaudette is the third center and if a top 2 line center goes down we would struggle. This does build flexibility. Stralman for me is a no. Build the d for the future.

I’d do that in a heartbeat and the trade Eriksson with a pick to Arizona for future considerations.

Benning has to do something on D so he is just doing his homework. He likely needs a top4 LHD and a top4 RHD. Here is the order he is likely looking at things: LHD 1. Edler 2. Gardiner RHD 1. Karlsson 2. Trade for Risto/Subban/Trouba 3. Myers i think he works down his priority list on both sides. Things move fast this time of year and you need to have your plans in order.

Agreed he hasn’t earned it but it could be a steal if he turns it around. I mentioned 3m and not 4m if it matters. Eriksson makes more than Horvat too so it doesn’t always work out perfectly.

The more I think about this I think we should just take Johnson and pair him with Hughes. May be a great mentor for him on the line. If the cost to acquire is low this could add some size and grit to the D core.

Is Erik Johnson really a cap dump at this point? I thought he was still a solid top 4 D man. That essentially means we can take him for nothing. If that is the case why don’t we just do that instead of signing Myers. If we did nothing else: Edler Stecher Hughes Johnson Joulevi Tanev Hutton Following year: Hughes Johnson Joulevi Tryamkin Edler Woo Stecher Hutton/Tanev traded That is a huge d-core as well. hmmmm......

Based on this it would still be a hefty price for us to get him but I think he’s our best target for age, offense, size, contract, and RH shot. Paired with Edler would allow Edler to simplify his game a bit more from having to lead the offence. Many positive cascading impacts. Puljujarvi’s value has to be around a second round pick and if Edmonton doesn’t think so you just offer sheet for 4 or under and pay a second. Fairly certain Puljujarvi would sign an offer sheet in a heartbeat especially with the Joulevi connection and a fresh start. I know he’s proven nothing in the NHL yet but you have to play some lottery tickets to build a team. He has everything you want in a winger. I would do 3x3 and see if it works out. I guessing it will.

Oh great idea!!! With the fluctuation limits it would have to be slightly more balanced but there is no way Seattle takes him at 8mil salary with a 5 or 6 cap hit. Too risky for them financially in their first year. Do it!!!

I think I’d be game for the first one. Extra year sucks but getting Pool Party could end up being a huge win. Lucic on our fourth line would be better than Eriksson on our fourth line. Maybe he becomes a 6 mil goon and sits in front of the net on the PP. Assuming he can get there in time.

Fully agree. I would do that swap if they took 1 mil of Perry’s cap too. Timing is better for that contract ending and likely our first this year takes his place at that time: Panarin Pettersson Boeser Pearson Horvat Perry That’s a lot of P’s

I think you create a ton of options with Panarin. I think Panarin and Pettersson become a combo because of their ability to think at a fast pace. If needed Boeser could just join Horvat as we know they have chemistry. Heck you could even put Baertschi back there to form the triple B line again. I think something like this could work: Panarin Pettersson Virtanen Pearson Horvat Boeser and if it doesn’t work you just change it up. Panarin is who we need and he gives us options.
