I think all the moves they are making now is banking on the 3rd OA to be a stud. And then they'll make a push with Gaudreau, Jenner, Laine, the 3rd OA, Johnson, Sillinger, Werenski, Provorov, Severson, Boqvist. And Coach Babcock. It is not a bad bet. They are sick of being bad lol.

lol why did they have to sign and trade... hard to imagine anyone paying Severson more than 6.25mil AAV.

I'd give Benning a 7/10. Inexperienced in a few areas. Also decent in a few areas. The most glaring is that guy doesn't seem to have a vision or blueprint. Trying to make the playoffs every season while hoping your core pieces grow into cup contenders is not good enough. Boeser, when he still had very good value, should have been traded 3-4 years in when it was apparent he was not core material. Pro scouting was pretty bad. Contract negotating got better in his latter years. So some good some bad.

[REPORT] Pierre-Luc Dubois has requested a trade
Drakrami replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wouldn't touch Dubois with a 10 feet pole - even if he was a 90 point player which he isn't. Toxic. Any team that has gotten him is put in a bad spot, that speaks for itself. If he thinks he can dictate which 1 team out of the 32 he will play for while being a RFA, I'd like to see that play out. It'd be good if he goes to Montreal, to me that team is set up for failure for the next 5 years. -
Just cause you want him for cheap doesn't distort reality. Half the league would line up to get Lafreniere for a late 1st if that's the cost.

[Signing] Canadiens re-sign Caufield
Drakrami replied to goalie13's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not someone I'd build my team around. So to hand out 9% of cap like that's a hand tying move to me. -
lol the NYR GM would get fired instantly for a trade like that. Pretty sure teams would line up to trade Lafreniere for a late first or 2x 2nds.

lol.. this argument is actually quite simple. Since this is actually not the first time we've thrown a first to "retool" or fill a need. Miller: sure didn't help us make the playoffs nor make us a contender - 2020 #20 Mukhamadullin OEL/Garland: traded 3 expiring bad contracts for 2 new multiple years bad contracts... - 2021 #9 Guenther Now Hronek 2023 #17 We'll see how Muk and Guenther do in the next couple of years. But "the moves that fills our needs":Miller/OEL/Garland sure has not made us a better team, based on team standings since 2020.

Stop trying to justify trades lol. Draft picks should always be kept unless you like to be losers forever (like we have been). Reasons like oh the pick wouldn't have turned out to be a better; Or, the pick wouldn't be ready in another 2-3 years. Is Bullshit, simple as that. Look at Bouchard. Drafted in 2018 at #10 5 years ago. Now playing amazing hockey for Edmonton. Draft picks should be kept is not even an argument, it is a fact.

[Report] Maple Leafs name Brad Treliving as GM
Drakrami replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Dont think this will turn out well. -
I dont get the point of this post.. You are basically saying we ace the same lineup from 22/23 and our cap will be ok. Well duh, our cap was ok for 22/23. A few questions though. Are we going with Silovs as backup? The #1 problem with last season was we cheaped out on goalie. Demko crapped the bed. And Martin is not NHL calibre, let alone take over starter job when Demko got injured. This was a JR mistake. Benning always made sure we had goalie depth. 3C? Re-signing Bear or getting some quality defensive depth? Each of those questsions cost a few million. Now that's your cap problem.
