  1. Yet another useless HP umpire.... Two strikeouts of Jays' hitters on balls that were obviously off the plate....and it's only the 3rd inning....
  2. Gotta feel for Martins there.... First a great strike in regulation hits the woodwork....and then the deciding penalty hits pretty much the exact same spot....
  3. I literally logged in to say this.....exactly this....100% agree on all three points.... I was screaming at my TV...."Why TF are you pitching to Teo?!" Not only would you rather face Murphy, but loading the bases sets up the force everywhere.....
  4. 5th inning....the first time the leadoff man hasn't reached against Kikuchi....
  5. Yeah, he could be a bust for sure....that being said, it's still a low risk deal for an asset that the Jays were lacking....
  6. Actually, I don't think he's much like White at all. Mitch White is a long reliever. Someone to pick up innings if the score is out of hand one way or another. The vibe I get from Cabrera is a 6th or 7th inning guy who comes in to face the likes of Devers, Verdugo and Yoshida....right now, Mayza is the only guy we have for that job and if he's pitched the prior game, Schneider and Walker didn't have another lefty option. Who knows what Hernandez will turn out to be, but dealing a 19 year-old that was drafted in the 14th round is a pretty low risk move, IMO....
  7. Reading a report that says the Jays have traded for lefty reliever, Genesis Cabrera from the Cardinals. https://www.mlb.com/player/genesis-cabrera-650893 The numbers don't blow you away, but the average fastball is 96 MPH and he strikes out just over one batter per inning. Looks like a possible alternative to Mayza. Toronto gave up a minor-league catcher named Sammy Hernandez, who is currently playing Rookie Ball and was not listed among the Jays' top 40 prospects. Also of note, someone has to be moved off the 40 man roster to make room for Cabrera.....can you say "Mitch White"?
  8. Anyone following the Open? Both Canadians are pretty much out of the running, with Corey Connors in a tie for 45th and Nick Taylor in 95th and missing the cut... I'm jumping on the Tommy Fleetwood bandwagon. Fleetwood is an Englishman and genuinely good guy, who has never won on the PGA Tour. (You might remember how close he came to his first win at the Canadian Open....he was in a playoff with Nick Taylor and was watching as NT drained that 70+ footer) Most importantly in my book, Fleetwood isn't part of the LIV Tour....
  9. One "under the radar" bit of good news for the Jays this weekend....although Bryce Miller and Logan Gilbert both have decent numbers, the Jays won't be facing George Kirby or Luis Castillo.... Of course, the flip side of that is we have Kikuchi, Gausman and Manoah throwing. I think a lot will depend on how Kuch looks tonight and weather Manoah can at least be better than Bryan Woo in game three (1-2, 4.74 ERA)
  10. I know this thread is supposed to be all about Arsenal, but what news from their North London rivals? Is Kane going to Bayern or what?
  11. I'll go ahead and say it....that was a bad start to the tournament and if I were Bev Priestman, I'd be very worried. A team ranked that low in the world basically shut down Canada's offense. Other than Sinclair's penalty miss, there were very few times I thought the Canadians were going to score. As far as that goes, I think the Nigerians gave as good as they got, even though Canada clearly had the edge in possession. We absolutely need the 3 points against Ireland, because like Bob says, Sam Kerr is expected back by the time the game against the Matildas rolls around. Speaking of injuries, what's up with Fleming? I heard the broadcast team talking about how she wasn't available against Nigeria, but I didn't hear why, or when she might be back...
  12. Not many people that can be called a legend, but Anthony Benedetto is one.... Thanks for the music, Tony....
  13. Speaking of which, the co-hosts both earned victories in their opening matches. No surprise with #10 Australia beating #45 Northern Ireland, but the 26th ranked Kiwis knocking off #12 Norway, is a pretty big upset.
  14. I keep thinking that Varsho will eventually figure it out, but teams keep throwing him breaking balls low and inside, and fastballs at the top of the zone, and he just seems incapable of making an adjustment... His defense has been very good, but after what we saw from Lourdes in the series against the D-Backs, it might be time to call this trade a loser for the Jays....
  15. Agreed. Someone had to send a message to this guy. He's been absolutely brutal. Not only did he gift Soto that dinger, he drove Manoah's pitch count up by about 20.... Automated balls and strikes can't come too soon, IMO. I'm really sick of terrible calls like those.
  16. One other item of note: The Padres have DFA'd Rougned Odor. Jays fans will have to find someone else to boo tonight. BTW: It's absolutely baffling that a lineup that has the likes of Machado, Tatis Jr., Soto and Bogaerts could be 6 games under .500....
  17. Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen an MLB Division in which all of it's teams finished above .500. To put that into perspective, no other division in baseball has more than three.... ....and as you point out, the AL Central has only one, the Twins, who are a single game over.....
  18. Everyone is. The Yankees try to get pretty much every star they can. Their problem is that their farm system is ranked in the middle of the pack. The Dodgers are a better bet, IMO. Even as good as they are, their farm system is still ranked in the top 5. The Rangers are another contender with a highly ranked system as are the Orioles and Bosox. When it comes to the AL East, the Jays rank quite a ways behind the rest of the division, so if they wanted any chance at landing Ohtani, they'd have to offer up Vladdy or Bo, plus Ricky Tiedemann. No way something like that happens unless you have assurance that you can re-sign Ohtani.
  19. Couldn't have gone much better on the out of town scoreboard last night.... Orioles lose to the Dodgers, (thanks to a grand slam on a 2 out 0-2 pitch by Chris Taylor in the 6th)....Rays lose to the Rangers on a wild pitch....and Yankees lose in extra innings to the Angels. The only AL East team that didn't co-operate were the Bosox, who shut out the A's... Fun fact: The Yankees are now in last place in the division.
  20. BTW guys, I wouldn't get too worked up about Mitch White. He's not much more than a placeholder at this point and is likely to be sent down when Hyun Jin Ryu returns, which after a promising start in Buffalo, (5 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 5 Ks, 0 Walks) looks like it could happen soon.
  21. Happy to see Alcaraz win today, but I'm still disappointed for Ons Jabeur. It would have been awesome to see a Tunisian win a major... Nothing against Vondrusova, but the Czechs already have a few majors. (One Czech player in particular has a bunch)
  22. Yeah, a win is a win....but that 2nd half was embarrassing. Disappointing that Gauld couldn't complete the hatty as well.....
  23. The down side of a 3-nil lead....players can't help but be sloppy AF....
