Benning would have been a good addition to Gills & Gilman. Gillis - President, Benning - GM, Gilman - Assistant VP.

Benning has that raw scouting ability

Gillis is great at building a culture / organization. Thinking outside the box, studying elite athletes in different sports, and spending money on things like sleep therapists and dieticians to give the team an extra advantage.

Gilman is a great architect. Thorough cap knowledge and great on the finance side. The Luongo contract was completely legal at the time - he simply outsmarted the system and we retroactively got penalized.

How's Gilman doing with that Toronto situation?

Oh wait they are in a cap crunch too!

There's a reason Gillis is not a GM.

All his "thinking out of the box" didn't save him from the essential skill of drafting and developing.

Honestly I wonder if it's more because he was an ex-agent that he wanted to keep players happy.

He might get a gig with a market that wants to take a risk.

gillis should have hired better scouts if that was not his strength

there really is little reasonable excuse for such a desert of drafting during his tenure

jb can hire someone to assist him with financial aspects if that is not his strength

and say what you may about his uneven start as gm on that front

his is looking pretty solid this past year

so he either evolved or has someone advising him on this issue
