Why does anyone have to be blamed after any loss? For cripes sakes the Nucks are 7-2-1 in their last 10. Last night was the first time in 7 games they failed to gain a point. They were playing their 3rd game in 4 days...on the road...a challenge for any team. They were tired. I'm not blaming them. Games and efforts like this happen. I'm not expecting a win every game. I'm sick of the criticism and handwringing when we don't. Let's criticize when it's deserved. As someone said it's a throwaway. On to the next one. I'd be worried if the lack of effort and pushback became a habit. But nothing in the team's play and results in the last couple months indicate that. We ARE still a good team in spite of a loss to the Bruins. As Deb said, let's see how we do when we are fresh and in our barn. Last night was no measuring stick. -
How long until Markstrom has proven himself?

Age 30. He has come of age as a goaltender. -
It's a good idea but Gallant will be highly sought after as a head coach in the NHL. He would never accept an associate job here.

Fire Brown and Green. Hire Jack Black and Ron White. Now that's a coaching tandem of a different colour!

Why aren't they blasting it hard and low and going for the rebound? We outnumber them. Seems so easy! -
I thought of this too. In fact, I think the coaches actually do this sometimes. The second unit plays less of a finesse (passing) style than the first unit which I think wears down the other team's first pk unit. They shoot more and cause more chaos. That would make the job of our first pp unit easier... to face a tired first pk unit or a less effective second unit.

It's hard to argue with any of the OP's choices... Pearson, Virtanen, Tanev... Pearson to me would be the frontrunner. I don't think anyone expected him to be so productive and such a good fit on Bo's line. Virtanen's finally blossoming into a top 6 forward. Also, a healthy Tanev has been rock solid on D and a great mentor for Hughes. He's been so good he's hardly noticeable. I like some of the other candidates mentioned here too. Edler... he's noticeable when he's missing from the lineup. Fantenberg... quietly competent on D. I can't argue with any of the role players on the team... Motte, Beagle, Roussel. Gaudette... who expected him to be so good so soon? He's another Miller in the making. JT Miller, unsung? Nah... lots of people have sung his praises. He's as much sung as Steve Miller. And Markstrom... same. He's sung like the all star that he is. Now Demko is definitely a good candidate. When he's in, the team hardly misses a beat. He has the team's and the coaches' confidence when he's in. Not too many teams can say that about their backup. Wow, half our lineup could be our unsung hero. We have a whole choir of unsung heroes!

Well... Guess who was just sung!

We must have the worst travel schedule too. That has got to be a big factor. Though we've had pure bad luck too...like pucks to the face. Can't dodge a fast moving puck no matter how fresh and alert you are.

I'd like to see Hughes at the All Stars too. It would be a well deserved honour and the activities wouldn't be very demanding. But somehow I can't picture him either boozing it up or lazing around a beach during the break. He's more like a Pettersson who is driven to make himself better. He'd be pushing himself out on the ice working on skills and guzzling milk afterwards.
-
Enough talk about other team's elite players! How about our own two budding superstars? Pettersson is currently #14 in NHL scoring, and is one great game away from top 10. Hughes is #10 among NHL dmen in scoring, one great game from top 5. Not too shabby for a pair of kids at the start of their NHL careers. Can you imagine them at their peak? Merry Christmas!

I'm especially happy for Bo and Loui for their goals...monkeys off their back. Gotta love that Edler for that classy move. Has he proved yet his value to this team? 3 wins in a row now. So is Green re-signed again...until our next loss? LOL.
