UnkNuk
I see the Whitecaps have made it to the Canadian Championship final with a win against York United. They'll play Toronto on a date TBD.

Probably because he saw what happened to MDS when he lost in the first round last year.

UnkNuk
LAFC @ Vancouver. First half. Yawn.
UnkNuk
A better second half, especially the last fifteen minutes, capped off by the winning goal by Cubas. Granted, LAFC was undermanned and Carlos Vela-less but you can only play the team the other side puts out there. It keeps the Caps near the playoff bar. Next up, Minnesota on Friday.

UnkNuk
Official: Vancouver Whitecaps acquire Julian Gressel from DC United UPDATE (July 15, 1:30 pm ET) – Vancouver Whitecaps FC have officially acquired wingback Julian Gressel in a trade from D.C. United for up to $900,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM), the clubs announced Friday. The funds exchanged break down as follows: $400,000 in 2022 GAM, $200,000 in 2023 GAM and $300,000 in conditional 2024 GAM if Gressel appears in three MLS matches between the 2022 and 2023 MLS seasons. “We are always looking for opportunities to take our team to the next level and Julian is the perfect fit. He has been on our radar for a long time, and we are very happy we got this deal done,” Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said in a release. “Over the past five plus years in the league, Julian has proven to be one of the best players in MLS, regardless of position, and is a league leader in assists. NewbieCanuckFan
Just sell the team to the Aquilini’s. They’ll spend money on the team.

UnkNuk
Moving on from yesterday's disappointment, the Whitecaps play Toronto on Tuesday in Vancouver for the Canadian Championship. And it's just the Whitecaps' luck that Toronto has now gotten its Italian stars Federico Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne into their lineup. They made their first appearance in the first half in Toronto's game against Charlotte yesterday. And by halftime, Toronto had a 4-0 lead. The winner of this game wins the Canadian Championship and also gets an entry into next season's CONCACAF Champions League tournament. Unfortunately, the game doesn't seem to be on network television. It is available on the sports streaming service OneSoccer and, presumably, on fubuTV which carries OneSoccer. RUPERTKBD
Judging by yesterdays scores, the moves made by TFC worked out pretty well for them.....of course that 'Caps don't make high profile moves, unless it's selling the best player they ever had.... UnkNuk
Whitecaps win! Whitecaps win! The Vancouver Whitecaps win the 2022 Canadian Championship on penalty kicks 5-3 after the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Thus Vancouver wins the Voyageurs Cup for the second time in their history and also secures a spot in next season's CONCACAF Champions League. And no-one was happier than Whitecaps coach Vanni Sartini:
