Guardians of the Galaxy - 3/10

Just watched this with the old lady and we were both thoroughly disappointed considering the hype and imdb rating. I can't believe people are calling this the "star wars of our time". Absolutely terrible acting, the characters were mediocre, the plot had so many holes in it, the attempts at humor were lame and full of cheesy one liners, entire movie was cg and felt like we were watching a cartoon. I usually like Marvel films too, but this one was trash. Reading most reviews online, I can't believe we watched the same movie.

Hmmm...

Exodus: 5/10 - It was actually pretty bad. Very slow, dark and unentertaining. The only thing that made it slightly entertaining was the 3D.

Penguins of Madagascar: 8/10 - Awesome haha! Especially in 3D!

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1: 7.5/10 - It was a bit slow at times but overall wasn't bad. If you've followed the franchise then it is merely a continuation and progression of the storyline. Was cool to see Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Tak3n: 7/10 - The reason I gave it a 7 is because I saw it in AVX but basically if you've seen the first one then you've already seen the other two. Much more of the same. Some solid action scenes and Liam Neeson + AVX made it worthwhile none the less, being a fan of the franchise.

And I really enjoyed Guardians, I thought it was really funny and really fun to watch. But this movie definitely got boosted by a poor blockbuster summer. But... it also never got boosted to the point of "next Star Wars"...

I'd say the Lord of the Rings franchise is the Star Wars of our time. Excellent trio of movies with a rabid fanbase and lots of merchandise, plus an inferior prequel trilogy that looks like CGI porn.

Forgot about this one last week.

Alex Cross - 3/10

So Matthew Fox was actually alright in this. Not great, but certainly was passable in his role. More importantly, Tyler Perry was not awful (nor was he awful in Gone Girl).

However, the film really tapered off as it progressed. Not incredibly memorable. In fact, I barely remember it and it's only been about a week. Decent for a movie playing in the background, though.

Inherent Vice: Couldn't get into it/10

One of those movies that ruin dialogue with a distracting score. This movie literally never turns off the soundtrack (well, I can't say literally, because I turned it off after half an hour). I'll give it another chance when its the weekend, but after a long day of work, straining my ears to figure out what Phoenix was saying just wasn't worth it to me.

big hero 6: 3/10

big eyes: 3/10

two terrible movies imo

tim burton SHOULD take a long sabbatical, but i sorta wanna see beetlejuice 2 lmao

For my money, nobody's movies are more overrated than Tim Burton's. As soon as I hear about his involvement, I know exactly what the style of the movie is going to be, and that I'm not going to like it.

i think he's done some fine movies in his early days, its just that he hasn't done much worth a damn in a very long time. it's sort of weird how intensely both he and johnny depp went from unique A-listers to mid-tier, mega over-exposed figures in recent years.

oh my - never really stopped and looked at Burton's career.

6 really good, sometimes great movies from Beetlejuice (88) to Mars Attacks (96). Everything after is completely forgettable imo.

Should be interesting with the Keatonaissance, 20 years later, can Beetlejuice 2 redeem Burton (rename it Beetlejuice Beetlejuice)
