[Rumour] Canucks want to move up in the draft to get top prospect

Recommended Posts

I actually like the combo for that line. Kesler is a shooter(sniper) defensive specialist, Nino is also a Sniper, Nichushkin drives hard to the net and can make plays. Another thing about this line is that they're all big, and have wheels.. Of course the lines could be modified if we actually had these players :P. How about:

Sedin Sedin Kesler

Nino Nichushkin Kassian

Burrows Gaunce Jensen

Thats a really big 2nd line

Yeah because last time that happened it worked so well for us right? Gillis traded the 60th overall pick for for the 71st and 101st pick, basically saying there was no one he saw that was worth drafting around the 60th spot.

He then passed up on Shane Prince, Vincent Trotchek, Adam Lowry, Nick Cousins, and Andrey Pedan (do some homework) for David Honzik, who has been so terrible he will probably not be offered a contract.

If Gillis values his job, he will be moving up in the draft ( or at least holding steady) and not trading down.

Most of the pieces in Vancouver's winning teams were a result of Burkes work, much the same as Toronto is now benefitting from what he left.

The Sedins being the largest part of that. If I remember correctly Burke was largely attacked for years by the members of this site for drafting "the sisters" and people were happy to see him go. I believe Burke also drafted Edler, Kesler, r.j. Umberger among other top quality players.

Again, gillis inherited an excellent core and has done little with it other than resigning players and doling out draft picks for expensive bench warmers. He doesn't have it in him to pull of a franchise altering trade.

No doubt he crapped the bed on that 2nd round pick but he did the same in picking Mallet and Rodin. If he learns from his mistakes and doesn't go offf the board like he has in the past, he should be able to get two good players owing to the depth of this draft.

Everyone wants to move up in the draft, but what can we give up that is worth it? Schroeder's stock isn't that high since he hasn't proven to be a regular NHL player since being drafted 4 years ago.

Burrows and Hansen are good players but hardly worth exchanging for a potential superstar.

Edler is about to enter an expensive contract after an underperforming season. He still has "potential" though...

Kesler and the Sedins, obviously big bargaining chips, but that would be a tough decision.

Schneider can probably give us the best return, but a team like Carolina or Nashville isn't shopping for a goalie so that's two less customers.

He'd fit in well with our new developing core of Tanev, Corrado, Jensen, Gaunce, Schroeder, Kassian and Schneider. That's a core with a lot of size and skill, similar to those of Chicago, Boston and L.A that are winning Cups every other year.

In about 4 years time when these guys start to peak, we'll still have the Sedins playing as secondary scorers, and Kesler as a veteran shutdown center. Edler will hopefully be a bit wiser and Garrison will still be able to contribute. Who knows, maybe that's when our Cup window re-opens?

Calgary stocked up on picks, but they have no real goalie for the future who is proven yet, and Edmonton are thin on the blueline and in goal as well so aren't going anywhere without a solid goaltender.

I still can't believe he didn't draft Adam Pelech , his own nephew! Not only was he just his nephew, he was voted the Erie otters defenceman of the year, player of the year, and the ohl's scholastic player of the year.

I hope Mallet can reach his potential, which seems to be a tough 3rd liner with slight scoring upside, or Gillis will look extra dumb for going off the board to drafting a 20 year who only looked good because he was playing against 17-18 year olds, and not draft Pelech.
