Guest
LOL so why would any team bother putting in a claim if they know they can renegotiate a new deal with him now.. but yes this is expected.

DeNiro
That'll be best for Ballard. Too bad injuries and a vindictive coach hurt his play here. I'll always remember the huge hip checks he threw in his time here. He was a fun player to watch when he was playing with confidence.

OptionalPants
The fact that Schneider got dealt when the easy option was to buy out Lu still proves the broke theory.
Darkstar
The Canucks now have just over 8 mil to spend on 8 roster spots.

bobopan
Except Lu's is a 30 million dollar buyout, while Ballard's is a 5.5 million dollar buyout. A little bit of a difference. And one thing people aren't taking into account is if Luongo retires early on another team, we get stuck with a 2 million dollar cap hit for the remainder. Something management would not wanna have to deal with.
canuckbeliever
The Schneider trade was beacuse we needed prospects and noone would offer any for Luongo

hudson bay rules
Can we only buy out a player in the summer? Can we buy out Booth (as a cap compliance example) mid season when he is healthy?

canuckbeliever
Except that keeping Lu's contract was also the most expensive way to solve the problem? If ownership was on the poor side, Torts would not be the coach over some unproven AHLer, we would not have moved our AHL affiliation out of Chicago and purchased the Rivermen, Edler would've traded for prospects last night and Higgins certainly would not have been extended. A lot of spending going on for a 'broke' ownership.
