Junkyard Dog
He was probably put on waivers because of cap. We would have 8.2 million in cap space if he gets picked up, enough to resign players and maybe sign a FA.
hudson bay rules
Irrelevant, Ballard was a good, solid defenseman before coming here. Whether it's the coach or not, it went all downhill for him as soon as he came to Vancouver. Maybe it was the coach? Maybe it was his surgery? CB007
Let me repeat. No one is picking up him. If he gets bought out his next contract with whoever is not going to be more than 2M per yr.

Me_
So what, Buyouts are stupid business and bad asset management. Lou + Horvat is better than Schnieder + a 30 million dollar bill+ cap hit penalties. Losing Ballard for free or a minor asset is better than losing Ballard with a multimillion dollar bill
Dragonfruits
Ballard has been an effective player under everyone except AV. Couple that in with AV's numerous terrible decisions and (admitted) lack of communication with players, and it's fairly obvious he's a large part of the problem. higgyfan
Why would any team pick him up off waivers when they know Gillis will eventually have to buy him out? What a freaking mess up.
Me_
The fact that Schneider got dealt when the easy option was to buy out Lu still proves the broke theory.
King Heffy
again Ballard has 0 responsibility according to you its all the coaches fault yet when it comes to someone like Edler its reverse its all Edler's fault has nothing to do with the coaching your a hypocrite the very definition of one
hudson bay rules
You're. It's. And Ballard has extensive history of playing well at the NHL level. Edler has NEVER demonstrated he can play acceptable defence at this level. Edler just signed a huge contract at a much longer term than Ballard has left and is a giant risk we can't afford to take right now.

Smashian Kassian
I knew the Aquilini's were broke, almost everone of their investments, from the realty around rogers arena to blueberry farms has tanked this past year. I'll make a more lengthy post about this later, but it eexplains the Schneider movement and Ballard being waived, NOBODY is being bought out. Ghostsof1915
we can't give away Ballard yet there are GM's chomping at the bit for Edler

TOMapleLaughs
Was it really the coach? There was a great article, can't remember if it was PITB or Canucks Army or something, but it explained very thoroughly why Ballard was terrible. Avicii
He wasn't tremendous, but i don't think he was pressbox-worthy either. Hell, i would've put him out as a forward over a few of our bottom-6 fodder guys. Him and AV clearly didn't see eye-to-eye. Now both are gone. Oh well. Good luck, Keith. samurai
This will be interesting: we'll see just how ruthless this market has become if nobody takes Ballard on conventional waivers. Definitely there should be 4-5 teams interested on the basis of need, but they could get greedy and want him only for a discounted, post buy-out salary. NightHawkSniper
this is great news, even if he isn't on unconditional waivers I would think it's a sign he will be bought out if no one picks him up. They absolutely need to buy him out, without buying him out the Canucks only have 4 million for 5 roster spots. having 8 million for 6 roster spots isn't so bad especially when some of those spots are 4'th line 7'th defensemen 13'th forward spots. If th Canucks lose Ballard they have the ability to get 1 more impact player with 4 million or so cap hit instead of press box ballard with a 4.2 million cap hit.
