Kevin Weekes gives his take on the Lu situation

Over 5400 posts on this board and youre telling me Canuck fans arent negative? CDC has the reputation of hosting much more negative support than positive support towards its team. I don't care much for Weekes as a commentator or analyst, but he has a point. The fact is, much of our fan base has horribly unrealistic expectations and will never be satisfied unless they're met. It's not our fault for the whole Lu situation, but it's not like we have done anything to help.

If we want Lu to be the best goalie we have seen him to be, it's cheering and proving that we want him here that will allow him to be the best.

Whhhhhaaaaaaa? Uhhmmm....for every supporter of Luongo there's ten guys saying he blew it and he's terrible and his contract sucks and he should have been traded and the list goes on and on and on. Seriously Vancouver fans to a person almost are far far to hard on the players and they love their team but at the end of every game and every season there's a new goat that they attack and don't let off of. Honestly there's so much vitriol that comes from this fairweather fan base that I shake my head and question why people wonder why Van Fans are so widely hated. Weekes may not have a whole lot of weight but his comments in this regard ring true like it or not. No goals scored in game 7 only 8 in a 7 game series and Luongo is widely held to be the reason the Nucks lost to Boston....why?

Weekes defending the goaltending fraternity is not shocking.

He's got a point about fans being on Luongo here, but teams being on their goaltenders is hardly a Vancouver-only problem, and it's hard not to notice those game in which he's been perforated. Perhaps the coaching change will help.

I found the criticism of him during the Olympics, particularly from out east, to be pretty darn bad though. He performed very, very well, but the saves are ignored and the goals magnified.

The Sedins are also gold medal winners. Same as Lundqvist. But Lundy is perceived as a hero while the Sedins are not. If they played for opposite Nhl teams, however, the Sedins would be heroes and Lundy disrespected as much as Lu. Is this a Vancouver problem? Or a bs coverage from out east problem?

Ultimately, Lu never get the respect he deserves until he wins a cup. This is the case with many a player.

Kevin Weekes should stick to doing nothing. To say a lot of negativity spews out of Canucks fans and blame them for the Luongo saga is absolutely bush league. He indirectly portrayed the fan base as to blame for the situation. Not sure why Weekes felt the need to call out the fan base especially when they have supported Luongo over the past 2 seasons and felt empathy for Lu. Maybe Weekes was mad because the fans were on him when he was performing terribly in Van

CDC is hated not Canuck fans outside of CDC which a lot of people on here fail to grasp that concept and it really isn't that hard to figure out that every Canuck fan is not on here so until that happens people should stop thinking CDC is how every Canuck fan thinks

Oh but wait you met fans outside of CDC and they think the same right well you still haven't met every fan so enough with the damn generalization's already

The fan base is partly to blame and so is the media. Where have you been in the last two decades? Have you not seen the goaltender graveyard? The scrutiny toward Vancouver players? FINALLY someone says something. But I am not surprised to see finnicky fans get insulted byt he truth.

To blame the fans for the Lu situation is terrible. Yeah fans were not happy with Lu in 2009/2010 when he had around a 6.00 GAA in two Chicago series especially when he is one of the highest paid goaltenders. He also came across as slightly abrasive in the media. Luongo has admitted in the past in interviews that some of the comments he made in his early years were out of frustration or emotion and were not the way he intended to say certain things.

However, the way he has handled the whole goalie saga last 2 yrs and his hilarious comments on twitter have shown a diff side. This is the actual Luongo. One which myself and majority of fans didn't experience or get to know simply because he was reserved in the media and didn't show that side to the fans. However, once fans saw this side they decided to embrace it with open arms. This has led to virtually all fans in BC supporting him. Proof can be see in emotional outpour which occured when 35 was dealt
