EliasSkywalker
Former Vancouver Canuck Jason King has retired due to the effects of his concussion problems. Too bad that his playing days are over, but the good news is that he is joining the St. John's Ice Dogs as an assistant coach. http://theahl.com/icecaps-king-retires-joins-coaching-staff-p187042 Jason had a great start with the Sedins in his rookie year (the Mattress line - two twins and a King) but was eventually relegated to the Manitoba Moose where a severe concussion in 2005 kept him out for almost a year or so. Jägermeister
He would have been a good little player if not for that concussion.

canucklehead44
It feels like yesterday when King was a 21 year old rookie potting goals at a rapid pace with the twins now he is retired. He had the goal scoring ability to make a pretty good NHL career but his concussion issues really screwed him over. It is too bad, but at the same time I am happy he found a job in hockey. BananaMash
I remember my uncle thinking that King was the next big thing when he was having that season with the Sedin. Too bad that injuries derailed his career.

Opmac
Was it really concussions that prevented him from being a NHL player? I don't think so. It was his lack of foot speed at the NHL level.

EliasSkywalker
The issue of concussions is topical again, what with the NFL settling out of court with their players (see http://seattletimes.com/html/sports/2021710985_apfbnnflconcussions.html) and with today's retirement of Jason King (even if he is a player of less stature). Give the NFL precedent, it will be interesting to see how the NHL deals with the NHLPA in the next year or two over the issue of concussions and head shots. I'd personally like to see hard nylon plastic shoulder pads and elbow pads taken out of the game. Any NHL deal with the NHLPA is probably too late for players like Pat LaFontaine, Eric Lindros, Adam Deadmarsh, Keith Primeau, Dave Scatchard, and Geoff Courtnall who had concussions prematurely end their careers, and who are still affected by ongoing symptoms. Canucks fan in chicago
the Sedins make anyone on their line look good...wasn't so much a good rookie year, it was more the Sedins proving they can turn anyone into a good player.

LeanBeef
Brandon Reid used to be one of my favorite players. :[
Lancaster
That may be it but also, he had a good shot of cracking the Canucks roster but couldn't come to terms on a contract so he bolted to Europe, subsequently his rights were traded. If he would have followed the "Burrows" path and allowed himself to become truely established he may have played longer as a Canuck and made a career for himself.
