mikeburn
As relayed via WGR (radio) and now circulating twitter-land, the new Sabres Captain is the Vanek & Ott duet! Home: C - Vanek A - Ott A - Ehroff Away: C - Ott A - Vanek A - Ehroff http://sabrenoise.com/2013/10/01/buffalo-sabres-award/ I was kinda looking for 1xC & 4xA, with the C being a vet and the alternating home/away As being vet/youth duets (ie: Ott/Weber & Ehroff/Hodgson), but going all vet makes sense and co-captains recognizes the contributions and styles of both Vanek & Ott. Guessing the rebuild youth focus and it being contract years for both Vanek & Ott played into it too? Sorta like lots of variables so pick the vets and see how the year shakes out? avelanch
because when the cocaptain is not playing as a captain, he will be the alternate.

avelanch
so what people are trying to say, is that this has been done many times before.

CanucksSayEh
Some very average players getting C's these days. Not that they have to be elite, but they should be, or have been, one of your best.

Master Mind
I'm guessing they wanted to give the C to Vanek, but with the uncertainty or him staying with the team long term, thought 2 captains was best. I don't care the co-captains, but it's still not as bad as who the Oilers chose.
Tre Mac
What's wrong with going with veterans? Time enough down the road for youth.

Ossi Vaananen
Vanek's leadership skills and the heart and soul he brings, ducking fights and avoiding physical contact is exactly what the Sabres need right now. His kind of up pace eEuropean soft hockey is what drives them.
-AJ-
Seems kinda weird, but I sorta like the idea, actually.
elvis15
Still better than the Oilers naming a captain that had yet to play a game for them and then adding 6 alternates.
