Should we re-sign Mike Santorelli?

Wait to see how he does in the playoffs (if the Canucks make it). If they to re-sign him right now, I'd say a one year deal at $2M seems fair. Like I said though, should wait to see how they do in the playoffs.

Love the "Gillis is an idiot" posts though.

- Garrison - Cheap.

- Tanev - Cheap.

- Santorelli - Cheap, steal.

- Sedin's - Cheap, not on long term contracts.

- Bieksa - Cheap.

- Kesler - Affordable, not on long term contract.

- Richardson - Cheap. Short contract.

- Hamhuis - Cheap. Not on long term.

Only contract(s) you can fault him for is:

- Burrows ($4.5M) Although most knew it was an overpayment, it was also to make good on the previous contract Burrows got.

- Luongo. Terrible contract. However, part of the blame goes to Luongo/agent for obviously assisting in such a contract, and the NHL for allowing contracts like this to take place to begin with. Blenty of blame goes around on that one.

Gillis deserves some credit for his signings. But my criticism of MG is his bad deals (Ballard, Luongo's contract, Hodgson, Schneider) and his prosractinating and apparent fear of pulling the trigger on a big deal.

he has versatility to play wing and center. If we were to move one or two of Booth/hansen/kassian/schroeder/weise/sestito etc any bottom six guy via trade, buyout or dont resign. Id give santorelli 2yrs 3,5m

if he wants more and decides to go for the money thats fine, so far hes playing well and may want to cash in. If he wants to stay at home he will resign for reasonably short contract for fairly cheap

YES. I would only give him one, or max. two years, around $1 - $1.5M, so that unless he proves himself to be worth more he'd stay hungry and we can see if he's worth it before committing more to him. At worst he'd be a strong 3rd line center and he can also provide valuable scoring and checking depth as needed, plus he's still young so I wouldn't expect things to change too much if he can develop consistency and chemistry with guys on this team.

Another versatile 3rd liner with 2nd line upside with the advantage of being able to play center and win faceoffs (which would be important since he likely lines up with a prospect like Schroeder or Horvat in the future, so can be faceoff specialist in case the prospects struggle in the dot)...if they can resign him under $2m/yr then keep him then one of Higgins or Hansen goes because there's only so many versatile 3rd line with 2nd line upside you can have (would prefer to keep Hansen, but really depends on what you can get in return)

Santo has to be resigned 1.5m 3 years Booth needs to go was made apparent last night when unpressured backed away from the puck allowing the avs a good chance and I saw a post about Tanev not playing well enough for a raise? really? He's a great shutdown d has a responsible game...Edler is very moveable as is Burrows since everyone is determined to break the core he would be my 1st choice to move not Kesler not Higgins not Hansen...Hansen plays the role very well very affordable so arguably he's cheaper younger and has more heart then Burr last few years

Santorelli would probably re-sign for less than either of you expect. Santorelli is currently outplaying every forward not named Sedin. Hard to argue that Kesler has outplayed Santo because Santorelli plays less minutes and never had a stint with the Sedins. I would move one or two of Burrows, Hansen and/or Booth if they don't start playing consistently well to make room for rookies or potential FA's and to re-sign Santo.

Burrows is a tough case to make as long as MG is GM. He's a guy that everyone knows has given blood and soul to the team while also being one of the faces of the organization. As for Hansen, even though Hansen has played for us for his career, his presence is much less, and he's likely to get flown out.

MG will NOT trade away a core player as long as he is a GM that still puts the players' comfort levels as his modus operandi.

One thing that should be noted, for any GM, is that for every "mistake", an opportunity usually opens up because of said "mistake." At the time, Ballard was a steady defensemen which the Canucks really needed, Grabner was expendable because apparently Raymond was awesome. Everyone has discussed Luongo's contract, that was a mistake. Hodgson was a distraction that apparently couldn't wait until the off-season, which means there was a lot going on behind the scenes then we will ever know. Has Kassian turned into a 40-50 point guy? Not yet. However, the salary cap space free'd up from the Hodgson trade for Kassian allowed Gillis to eventually sign Garrison. As for Schneider. I love him and believe he is the better goaltender. However, I will maintain that they still got a terrific return for him, regardless of what people say. What makes it better is the fact that the Devils are not poised to win anything, anytime soon.

I don't think Burrows is going anywhere but I can see Booth and/or Hansen being put on the block.

Santo can play C/RW. Has been part of all of the energy this season and one of our most consistent forwards

Higgins-Kesler-Santo

Higgins-Santo-Burr

Have been good lines and can help get everyone going. Very versatile.

Could see

Sedins-Burr

Higgins/UFA-Kesler-Santo

Booth/UFA-Horvat-Hansen/Kassian

Sestito-Richardson-Archibald

or

If gaunce is ready than move kesler to the sedin line and bump Horvat up. We also have Schroeder, shinkurak that could make the lineup.

I'd love to have Santo back for 3 million for a couple years He's only 27
