Yes, trade the guy who signed for league minimum because we're his hometown...

Winning in the NHL is a business, and sometimes that means making decisions that piss people off, like asking a player to waive an NTC to get a kings ransom in return, signing a cheap player to another good deal then flipping him for better assets, etc. If a GM is always worried about hurting a players feelings with the moves he makes, he won't be very successful.

Or re-sign Santo at a cheap home town discount and trade Hansen, who has a limited No Trade Clause that doesn't kick in till next year, because Santo, the guy we signed for Utica, is seriously outplaying him. Santo can also play any FWD position, he's especially good at C which, unlike Hansen, makes him a good utility player.

That could work too. Either way, I think one if not two of the Canucks cheapish, tweener forwards will be moved to open up some roster spots next year.

He has been better than Higgins, Hansen, Burrows, Richardson, Weise, Kassian, etc. So long that the trend continues, why wouldnt you re-sign him?

Sign Santorelli, package Hansen.

Although he's been having his share of good games...you could still add Kesler to your list, because he's been outplaying him too.

15 takeaways 5 giveaways +10

30 blocked shots

+9

53.7% in the faceoff circle.

8/13 21 points with 45% offensive zone starts

Right alongside the Twins, Burrows, Higgins and Hansen for the best underlying numbers on the team.

No signs of relenting. He's been like a combination of a Swiss Army knife, WD40 and vitamin P for this team.

Really don't understand the concern that Santorelli's place on the team would necessitate taking a roster opening away from Horvat and/or Gaunce. Even if both rookies made the lineup, it's not like all three of those guys need to play at centre.

Santorelli, Horvat, and Gaunce are all capable C/W hybrid forwards and each has the ability to play up-and-down in the lineup. You could even have a highly effective line playing all three together. Gaunce-Horvat-Santorelli could be a formidable third line.

My only concern would be salary. If Santorelli signs for fairly cheap, then it's a no-brainer to retain his services in Vancouver. If the young guys make the jump next season, it'll just mean that the Canucks will have sufficient depth in the lineup to allow them the option, if they so chose, to play veteran 2nd/3rd liner tweeners on their fourth line-which is a problem that just about every team in the league would love to have.

Give him the "Burr-deal"(4 x 2 mill), or the Lu-deal?!

Add two unique clauses with a NTC. He can pick ten teams he'll go to if...a) His production drops by 40%, or more, from his peak(eg:if he gets 50 pts this year, he'd have to get at least 30 pts, next 3 seasons). Reasonable security for both sides.

b)If we win it all, we may have 'til July 1st to deal him(basically at the draft).

But he's on pace for a 20 goal season and had 40+ pts in his rookie season with Florida before injury. This guy if he keeps it up, make no mistake, will demand a massive salary boost. He's getting paid bottom dollar but is playing like a top 4 forward right now on a playoff team. That isn't cheap.

Btw check out the best 'numbers for the money' on capgeek: http://capgeek.com/bargain-hunter/ note who's on top there. Not bad.

Hi there, Paul Holmgren. How has your tenure been?

If he can keep this pace up, Gilles better open the check book, as there will be a queue of managers trying to sign him. A player with appetite for the game line santo, who can easily slip up and down the lines and be signed on a free will be in high demand ...

And it wont be a a 1 year 1 mill contract...

Should we re-sign Mike Santorelli? If so why and for how much money and how long of a contract? If not why?

The answer is simple: If has a reasonable contract demand he'll be re-signed. if he demands too much he won't. It really doesn't matter how much we think he should get (which is typically way too low on this board), it's how much he thinks he should get that will decide it.

Yes, but do not pay him like a top-6 centre. do not give term. do not give a ntc.

I think it would be ridiculous to let him go, simply to make room for youth.

On the chance that Horvat et al, somehow aren't ready...then what?

I'd rather keep him, with the expectation that he might move down the depth chart.

Santo as a 4C?....that would be a ridiculously good 4C option. sliding Richie over to LW

Guy is on pace for over 50 points, 27yrs old. Buy out booth or trade someone to keep him. He's literally the best thing to happen to this team since the cup run, you don't let that go because you want to play a rookie.

I want Horvat in the lineup as much as the next guy but if it takes an extra year to get him there and we keep santo, I'm fine with that. Gaunce can be called up next year and everyone can get their rookie fix.

Santo and Horvat > Horvat
