Kanucklehead10
So we've been knocked out of the first round for the past two playoffs (1-8) since Hodgson was traded, we've tried Roy, Pahlsson, and even Ebbett as third line centers and we haven't had any success with them, but this year is different. Our penalty kill has been absolutely lights out all season with the additions of Tort's system and players like Richardson and Santorelli (last game against the Kings was a prime example). We seem to have the same domination in penalty kill since our Stanley cup run year in 2010-2011, and now a good physical team that people have been longing for. The lack of scoring is the obvious issue and if the rumours are true, yet again we are looking for another 3rd line center (it will most likely have to be a rental). I don't know exactly what Gillis is trying to do. Is he trying to make this team filled with goons like Steve Ott? (just as people were mentioning); he's gone too much into trying to create the "Boston bruins model" that it seems he's become passive on the concern to score goals. The Bruins actually use their physical play to open up for the offence which is how they win. The canucks play either one or the other. Offensively, we were shutdown the whole game on Monday. Sure, we played up to the physicality of the Kings last game, but they probably didn't give two sh*ts since they won.
Pears
I don't have a problem looking for another 3rd line center, as long as it's the right 3rd line center. The Derek Roy-type centers belong in the top six, we need a Brandon Dubinsky-type 3C and another big scoring forward to be able to compete with the California teams. ShakyWalton
I would rather see a top 6 goal scoring winger,,but at this rate,,I guess we will take what we can get.
70seven
I think everyone would rather another legit top 6 goal scorer with size... but they dont grow on trees and are hella expensive to attain. Ott and Dubinsky would both be fabulous picks, and would bring different elements. Ott can play center, but has played an awful lot on the wing aswell. Dubi is the better center. He is well rounded, as he can put up good numbers (9 g and 29 pts on the year), throws hits, blocks shots, and has good speed.... Hes a bigger and more physical version of santorelli imo. but we do have alot of similar players, and thats where i think ott is an interesting option (and likely much cheaper pick up). Ott adds tremendous edge to the lineup, and its not that GIllis is trying to re-make the Bruins, but if you look at our division and the best in the West, the Canucks need to be a tougher team to play against. Making teams more uncomfortable, and winning the game within the game. Honestly if there was a way to aquire them both, and assemble a 3rd line of Ott - Dubinsky - Kassian.... Id be thrilled. Iterestingly enough... These are the two players I really wanted the Canucks to aquire before the deadline last year aswell.
4thLineGrinder
richardson says hi also we will be getting shroeder back with out having to give up anything i don't think there's gonna be much movement of players this year with the cap situation most teams are gonna have to go with what they have
Hunter.S-Kerouac
you make it sound like COHO had something to do with our cup run. 1 assist and a -4 in 12 playoff games is not the difference maker.
Tearloch7
Anyone who thinks Ott is a 'goon' does not know a lot about the 'game' .. McGratton and Westgarth, Orr and MacLaren, and Matt Kassian are goons .. guys like Ott and Chris Neil, (and even Sestito with his improvement), are tough, gritty players that add so many intangibles to a team .. if someone had stood up to Thorton in the Final run we probably would have won the Cup. Chalky
Yeah, lets get a 3rd, 3rd line center. We have Richardson and Schroeder, we need a top six forward who can score.

We lost, get over it....and Sestito is a goon until he gets better at skating.

higgyfan
We already have plenty of 3rd line Cs, what we need is someone who can score goals. Whatever...this is not the year for the Nucks. Not worth paying high for a rental player. Make a solid run next year.
Kanucklehead10
@honey badger36 Never once did I say we started doing poorly solely because we lost hodgson. I was pointing out that after the trade, we started struggling noticeably. Learn some comprehension bub.
VanNuck
Someone asking for another third-line centre? Look no further than Brendan Gaunce. The two years of OHL seasoning should have already prepared him for NHL duty. Is averaging over a PPG in the OHL - which is something when you're a "two-way character guy." cbdoubleu
ott and byfuglien BOOM! For Horvat, Guance, 2 x 1st Round Picks, probably a roster D man, and/or Hansen? BOOM? The asking price on those two guys is going to be insane, and the Canucks will have a hard time moving the cap space, and the players teams would want in return since they'd all be NTC or LMC's. We need poor man's version of those guys. President's Choice Annoying Forward with Size, Speed, and IQ. It doesn't taste quite as good as the real thing, but if you're drunk enough it'll do. Jiggs50
Richardson has been fine as a 3rd line center but on a good team he should be on the 4th line. Need a long term guy though. Can't be a rental.

He can't play for us until his OHL season is over. His team looks like Memorial Cup contenders so I doubt that is happening anytime soon. We will have to wait until next season.
