Alex the Great
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger Canucks trade Patrick Mullen to Ottawa for Jeff Costello. I'll find a scouting report on Costello History 2007-08: Jeff Costello spent the season at Catholic Memorial (USHS), where he potted 31 goals and 48 assists in 22 games. 2008-09: This was Costello’s first season with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (USHL). In 54 games he registered 24 markers and 33 points, racking up 73 penalty minutes along the way. 2009-10: In 54 games with Cedar Rapids, Costello would hit the back of the net 29 times and add 19 assists. He was named to the 2010 USHL All-Star game. 2010-11: Costello skated in all 44 games for Notre Dame as a freshman. He scored 6 of his 12 goals for the Fighting Irish on the power play and had 6 assists. The big forward had the second-most penalty minutes (56) for Notre Dame behind freshman defenseman Stephen Johns (CHI) who had 98 PMs. Costello finished with a -4 plus/minus on a Fighting Irish team that was one of the most improved in the country and finished second in the CCHA. 2011-12: Costello battled through an injury-filled sophomore season in his second year at Notre Dame, missing five games after suffering an "upper body injury" in October and then missing another seven-game stretch at the end of January. In 28 games for the Fighting Irish he scored 5 goals with 7 assists and was minus-six with 58 penalty minutes. Three of his five goals were game-winning goals and two were scored on the power play. Notre Dame slipped to eighth in the CCHA and after sweeping Ohio State in an opening round playoff series lost to second-place Michigan in a pair of tightly contested quarterfinal game: finishing the year 19-18-3. 2012-13: Costello had a breakout season for Notre Dame in his junior year, finishing as the Notre Dame's third-leading scorer behind Anders Lee (Islanders) and Bryan Rust (Pittsburgh). He scored 11 goals with 19 assists in 33 games and was +18 with 52 penalty minutes. The Fighting Irish won the final CCHA playoff championship after finishing second to Miami in the regular season. Notre Dame lost to St. Cloud State in the NCAA Midwest Regional semifinals. Talent Analysis Costello is a feverishly hard worker both on and off the ice. Goes into the corners and works hard on the forecheck. Can take hits and deal them out. Very persistent at both ends of the ice. Just a good two-way player who will do what is asked.
