Benning could look at trading Eddie Lack - Article

You and I have agreed in the past that on a pure talent basis it is best to keep Miller and Lack and move Markstrom.

I did not consider Lack's new contract. Next year is fine but when Lack's new contract kicks in the following year, the cap hit for goaltending could be pushing $10M (6 + 4). As it sits now, it's 6 + 1.15 = 7.15.

It's only for one year but it could be a real problem team wide.

Unless Lack would agree to a 1 year term at a lower cap hit. However, he would have to trust that there would be term and $ coming later but he would have no assurances.

Depending on the situation we could have enough cap to have Miller and Lack during Lack's extension as it would be Miller's final year.

If we use Lack to move up in the top 10 or get a early 2nd for him alone that would be a great return.

Otherwise keep him and Miller and move Markstrom.

SJS probably won't take Miller unless we retain a big chunk of his cap. A lot more cheaper options in FA as SJS also needs the cap for a good defenseman. Also SJS would give up peanuts considering Millers has a NTC and SJS is probably the only viable destination he would waive to.

Miller has a limited no trade clause.

He doesn't have to waive to trade him, all he can do is provide a list of 5 teams that he'd be willing to go to.

If management wants to go with Markstrom and Lack next season, all they have to do is find a team on his list willing to trade for him.

He doesn't have to waive to trade him, all he can do is provide a list of 15-20 teams that he'd be willing to go to.

It is actually a 5 team list he has to submit to.

Already edited. ;)

And if you knew that you wouldn't have said he had to waive.

I knew it deep down but some things just slip your mind. Just like with your edit.

Nonetheless he has a 5 team list and the only team that truly needs goaltending is SJS who also have other problems.

if miller would go to sanjose and they had interest in bringing him in, bring back an ex canuck, although he has been injured alot he would be a nice addition to our bottom 6

Torres 1yr left 2m cap hit

2015 sj 2nd round pick

For

Miller

rights to weber - may be of interest to them for a pp specialist? I would like us to give clendening or corrado his roster spot

Oh man that sucks. He is really redundant on the Canucks but to a team who is trying to give it a good run in the playoffs he would be an ideal type veteran third line/fourth line player.

Redundant? More like severely underrated. 2.5 million for a good third liner who frequently slots into our second, good for 35-40 points each season and is a big part of one of the best PK's in the league, sure sounds like a great deal to me. Higgins is a good two way forward with a large amount of experience to draw on when teaching our youngsters how to play in a defensively responsible manner. There is no reason to get rid of Higgins, unless our lineup drastically changes.

There are other teams that could use goaltending.

Lack + Tanev+ Mcann

For

Draisaitl + 16th overall + 33rd

Sign Cody Franson

With 16th and 23rd draft the best 3 avsilable D men- Kylington, Juulsen, Dunn

Edmonton hangs up the phone, unplugs it from the wall, flys to Vancouver, and beats you with it.

not that i think it's the case, but if he really didn't want to leave and he was asked to provide his list, he'd go with nyr, njd, mtl, bos, lak.

Name a few that truly need goaltending.

Phx, Dallas, Oilers, Islanders, Sabres, Carolina and San Jose could all use a goaltending upgrade to varying degrees. Some more than others.

Personally I think we should trade him back to the Sabres for Cody Hodgson

I think Buffalo makes a lot of sense. Pass on CoHo. Take a smallish Ennis in a heartbeat. One can dream.

The bolded teams make the most sense. Carolina need a goalie and IMO they will be a playoff team. Dallas was the second best offensive team in the NHL last year but had one of the worst GA in the league, adding a goalie would make them a strong contender for a playoff spot. Oiler well they are the Oilers and if they solidified their goalentending they should be a playoff team

Dallas

2016 1st

Edmonton

2015 2nd

Carolina

2015 2nd/2016 1st (LA)

I think those are reasonable prices for Lack

I think they all make sense to some extent. Obviously the COHO part was a joke. Those trades are good, but I'd like to see if we could maybe package together a bit bigger trade.
