Hansen should be able to get a late second/early third alone

VAN: Lack, Stanton

PHI: MacDonald, PHI 3rd

No thanks, we've got enough overpaid d-men already

VAN: Vrbata, Hamhuis

NJD: Gelinas, FLA 2nd, NJD 3rd

I don't know a lot about Gelinas, but we can get way more than this

VAN: Corrado, Kassian, PHI 3rd

BUF: NYI 1st

Only really workable trade here. I'd start with Corrado-Kassian first and negotiate from there

Well, at least nobody could complain about the Canucks icing an old team, even with the twins, Burrows and Miller.

I have a couple of other comments:

1. The draft choices are nice but the team that is left smacks of a team intended for taking. It is filled with young players, a number of them unproven at the NHL level. This is not a team which could be expected to compete in the west with the result that Canucks would probably be drafting really high for at least a couple of seasons until the young players became mature NHL regulars.

That's a direction that the Canucks management has stated repeatedly it will not go. They've said they intend to compete for a playoff spot every year.

2. Let's examine the merits of Hamhuis waiving his ntc for a move to the Devils.

Pros

-He could say hi to Schneider.

-The Newark Star-Ledger is still a highly regarded newspaper despite financial troubles.

-the Newark area's reputation as a terrible place to live is probably overstated

Cons

-The Devils have a bad team

-The Devils aren't a good organization

-New Jersey is a high tax jurisdiction

-The weather in Newark is not an enticement

-He'd be far from home

Sorry, jazz. You probably make more realistic posts than many on CDC, but Hamhuis waiving to go to the Devils seems pure fantasy to me.

If you're trading to Philli both a starting goaltender AND a potential top 4 D man under 25 and taking back MacDonald and ONLY getting a 3rd in the process you're criminally stupid as a GM.

Philly cannot do squat because of the contracts of Lecavelier and MacDonald. Taking either of those contracts is worth a 2nd round pick all it's own
