Am I the only one who's happy with Gaunce and doesn't see him as a 'throw-in'?

I really liked the idea of adding a bottom six C. He seems like he can be a 20-35 point guy on the 3C just because of his IQ.

No doubt he'll be a fourth liner, but it's whether to see how high he can go.

Some people forget that we pick in the range of 22-29 every year..

exactly this. you have guaranteed NHL player in gaunce. if he stays at center then i think his ceiling is a third line center. however if he is willing to play the wing in the NHL then he could be a second line winger who chips in 40-50 points in his prime

Does Sutter just really not like Gaunce?! I mean, there's gotta be a reason. Maybe it's his skating that didn't get him on the team. The WJs are overseas this year, so larger ice surface, but one could argue that he has played better than Shink so far. I just don't understand. Happy Horvat and Shink made the camp though. Shink is definitely a bubble guy though. Really needs to impress.

well Horvat does everything Gaunce does, but better, so if you can only take one, it's a no brainer. Besides, the only real place for Gaunce would be the 4th line, and you can't really make an argument for taking him over some of the other 4th liners, other than he's a canucks prospect. if anything, it would be a wash one way or the other, add to it that sutter doesn't really care that much for him, and there you go.

I hope this has the same effect as when Samuelsson was snubbed from the 2010 Olympic roster. He took it so personally and absolutely went off after.

or when corrado was snubbed last year, despite being far and away the best D in all the pre tourney games.

I'm thinking that played a factor I the smaller selection roster this year. why was the roster so big if your play couldn't change anyone's mind?

Hockey Canada still think they just need to turn up and pick up the Gold at the end of the tourney...how else would you explain a coach saying this

Turns out Sutter wasn’t entirely thrilled with the Canucks’ 2012 first-round draft pick, even though he actually had to ask Canucks assistant GM Lorne Henning about him as he’d never seen him play before.

they meant before those 2 games he had not seen him play before. they meant he wasn't thrilled with his play in those games, specifically. even though Sutter didn't actually say that. what he said was:

"He's a big guy and he's a ways away from being a pro player yet,"

"He's a very defensive-oriented guy as far as understanding the game. He knows his limits offensively, but he's a big power forward who's a decent skater and he's got some good skills. But I see him more as a third- or fourth-line player in the National Hockey League, more of a power guy."

the coach doesn't like the way he plays, simple as that.. personally he seems like a strong option for the 4th line at least, maybe as a defensive specialist to carry along as a scratch. sucks to hear he won't get the shot but maybe it will be motivating.

Didn't see this posted yet, not a very positive article on Gaunce

http://www.sportsnet...ade-for-gaunce/

then again the author didn't seem to realize Gaunce is used to playing wing.

Edit, here's a more positive article also from the sportsnet site

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/juniors/versatile-gaunce-will-help-otters-defensively/
