It's going to hurt their US tourism if relations continue to deteriorate.  Tourism is responsible for over 5 million jobs there and US tourists rank second highest behind close US ally, South Korea.

Everything to the US comes down to a buck, or violence, it appears.

What's your point?  It was the same thing with Rome and the British Empire.

Yes, this cycle is something humanity can't seem to side-step. Living here in Asia, I find this development quite the eye-opener. When empire starts to unravel, the pace can sure pick up.

For anyone(myself included) with an interest in recent history(even a passing one); & who follows the day-to-day geopolitical/social occurrences, the rapidity of change today is news in itself. Dating back to about 1990, there's a Helluva' lot occurred, that I shook my head about(& will always).

After the falling of the Berlin wall, & opening(to varying degrees) of communist/closed societies(primarily Russia & China), I feel the western PTB have played their cards mighty poorly. Much of this sh*t rolling downhill today, emanates from poor direction/policies/vision of this period.

What's REAL FUNNY?

Random posters(maybe spam-bots?) will quote me here, saying with 4 or 5(implicitly unrelated) pieces of news, I'm "rambling away". Is it what TECH has done to the lot of us? People don't have the patience anymore to think back(be it wks, yrs or decades) & connect a few necessary dots. They WANT Geopolitics to be checkers, not chess. To believe their leaders/MSM, in order to sleep soundly at night.

One day western society will awaken to the corner our "leaders" & policies have painted us into.

Countries aren't people. They don't have friends. Countries have economic and military interests. Alliances change with those interests.

this truly appears to be a lack of confidence in America.   china's generous 3 billion loan is there way of telling the world they will help other countries if asked.

it's already scary the US currency is no longer considered the worlds backed currency. now you have China and Russia increasing their gold reserves for if the us economy crumbles.

too bad America doesn't still have its gold standard now it's in a rather complex situation.   China could if they wanted essentially tank the US economy if they wanted too.

they own so much us debt it would be easy to force the US to increase its inflation to continue forward.   obviously such actions will result in war between China, Russia, Syrian, Iran, and I guess now the Philippines and the West.

the Philippines aren't a major threat but it shows the lack of confidence in America and it's dollar.  the only way I see it ending peacefully is if they create either contential currency or a global currency.  obviously eu's contential currency has been a disaster.

makes me wonder where Canada will be during hard economic times for America.  will we get dragged down or will we become the economical force in North America.

Interesting stuff, Rush. Perhaps as dealers(for decades) at the Global poker table, the US(in their hubris) viewed their currency as gold they could mine(at whim) with their printer?

Folks got p*ssed off.

Card table got kicked over. Big bluff called..now what happens?

War, hopefully only economic

The bear and the eagle will fight and the dragon will win. The west can not compete against Chinese wages- but the Chinese are already having trouble competing with other countries cheap labour. Seems everyone is now locked into a race for the bottom.

"It was on the 27th day of December, the anniversary of my birth, and I shall never forget the scenes I witnessed on that day. As we approached the town the word passed along the line that there would be no prisoners taken. It meant that we were to shoot every living thing in sight—man, woman, and child. The first shot was fired by the then first sergeant of our company. His target was a mere boy, who was coming down the mountain path into the town astride of a caribou. The boy was not struck by the bullet, but that was not the sergeant's fault. The little Filipino boy slid from the back of his caribou and fled in terror up the mountain side. Half a dozen shots were fired after him. The shooting now had attracted the villagers, who came out of their homes in alarm, wondering what it all meant. They offered no offense, did not display a weapon, made no hostile movement whatsoever, but they were ruthlessly shot down in cold blood—men, women, and children. The poor natives huddled together or fled in terror. Many were pursued and killed on the spot.

"Two old men, bearing between them a white flag and clasping hands like two brothers, approached the lines. Their hair was white. They fairly tottered, they were so feeble under the weight of years. To my horror and that of the other men in the command, the order was given to fire, and the two old men were shot down in their tracks. We entered the village. A man who had been on a sick-bed appeared at the doorway of his home. He received a bullet in the abdomen and fell dead in the doorway. Dum-dum bullets were used in that massacre, but we were not told the name of the bullets. We didn't have to be told. We knew what they were.

"In another part of the village a mother with a babe at her breast and two young children at her side pleaded for mercy. She feared to leave her home, which had just been fired—accidentally, I believe. She faced the flames with her children, and not a hand was raised to save her or the little ones. They perished miserably. It was sure death if she left the house—it was sure death if she remained. She feared the American soldiers, however, worse than the devouring flames."

Company M was commanded by Capt. Fred McDonald.

We've all been conditioned from youth to think in national, patriotic paradigms. Personally, I think that's deader thanna' dodo. The elite probably don't see things so provincially.

How many people wanna' fight & kill for the (ludicrously indebted) piece of turf they stand upon? It's sort of a unique time, because even the uncultured serfs(to which I proudly claim allegiance! :^) know too much.

Top-down control don't work no more. EVERY political system has been exposed as a sham. Almost any elite is revealed as parasite, regardless of their stripes.

All uncharted-waters. Torn sail. Crazed pilot.

Philippines was already hemorrhaging foreign investment dollars since Duterte started running his mouth and allowing the citizenry to murder anyone they thought was a drug dealer.

He had to cozy up to someone. I guess now he won't be riding a jet ski to that disputed island in the South China Sea and planting the Philippine flag to spite China after all like he promised in his election campaign.

He's the perfect example of what can happen when you elect a loose cannon.

If he thought being in the debt of the USA was unpalatable....wait until Russia and CHina have leverage.  The Phillipines, if it continues on this road, has just sold out its future independence for peanuts.

So the US relationship with..._________? Where? Where can we point to(in recent times), & say, "Ahh, the US concerted their efforts THERE, & look how wonderful it is today!"

Like their shyte-tripe Hollywood has been pushing forth the last few decades, their "soft power" is taking on a resemblance to 'fear porn'.

It's High Time for significant global-change!
