I don't care about banks or people that paid too much for their home. That is their problem. We have seniors and poor people who can't afford rent. If people walked away from their homes it would be a federal problem (CMHC) so the federal government would chip in and help BC out.

So seniors and low-income people >>> everybody else.  Gotcha.

not everyone has a fat union pension to lean on.

The property transfer tax is just a complete grab with no direct benefit either.

I also dont want a sell high buy high market.million dollar houses that arent worth nearly a million.

Government of bc needs to make developing property a public matter instead of a private matter.

Well, should have thought of that back in 04 when the Liberals changed some pretty key rules leading to the runaway speculation and housing issues.

Homes are to live in, not park money in.

If they were serious about foreign buyers, they would ban them outright. But they're not - trying to play both sides. Another bandaid solution for those who live here, the illusion they are doing something positive, and a few extra bucks for rich Chinese and their Vancouver house they use three weeks a year.

Ban them all!! Well at least the old generation!

how can debt be going up when there is a surplus?

The surplus is from the annual operating budget.  The Debt is long term debt like infrastructure spending.

All governments do this.  Claiming a surplus and at the same time running up the debt.

In this respect the BC NDP is no different from the BC Liberals.

Since banking has been centralized globally, everyone is a debt slave.
Money is literally debt.
We exist in a trickle-UP economy.

Pierre Truedung sold us (as Canadians) down the river in 1973 when he allowed the Bank of Canada to be taken over by foreign interest (pun extremely intended)
We've been %$#!ed ever since.
There is no such thing as "surplus".
*Prosperity (and choice, with respect to "voting") are illusions used to keep the average person, of average intelligence (which is to say, most people), compartmentalized.
To keep them too preoccupied to be bothered with reality.

Post of the year to date.

But without question, we will continue to argue about taxes, ICBC and which provincial party breaks the most promises.

The real irony is that poster thinking this started with P.E.T.
