Markstroms not getting number eight.  Schneider was one of the best young goalies in the league when he was traded (think Gibson quality) and the most he would get was the ninth overall. He might get us a second and a B level prospect if we are very lucky.  Look what it took to get Andersson from ANA a few years ago and what Dubnyk was traded for and even Eddie Lack (and he had a .920 sp at times the same as Nilsson did when we traded for him).   Unless a goalie is highly touted, they don’t get much of a return.  It’s very small market for goalies and there are tons around/available, many if they got the chance might even turn out pretty good.

Doubt Demko would get us he 8th either.  More importantly EDM won’t make a trade with anyone in their division that’s this big and vice versa.  If we want to move up we need to be working with teams that aren’t in our conference or at the very least in the Central.

To be fair, Edmonton was kinda peeved cause they offered a greater package for Schneider. Which I think included their 7th/8th overall pick. But yeah I doubt Markstrom would net a 8th overall pick on his own. Maybe if Chia pet was still in charge you could argue it.

I am sorry...……….:picard:

Where the hell does JV, OJ and taking Lucic contract = 8th OA

Lucic by himself = 8th OA

It is a horrible contract for a horrible player

Just look what Chicago gave up for a year of contract, twice!

If...and I mean if you want the 8th...…..give them

DiPietro + 2021 1st (unprotected) + Tanev and Baertschi...……………….this is a manageable over payment

for

Lucic and 2019 8th OA

That is a help them now, help them later offer, and is a huge Over payment, we can handle

That is a

Defensman who can actually play defense

a LWer who is offensive and can actually score

a 2021st that might only be 7 or 8 spots behind what they are trading, with a possibility of a 1st OA

Plus eliminating 24 Million in cap, which allows them to upgrade somewhere

Plus a high end goalie prospect

That is massive Overpayment and still better than giving up OJ and JV and taking on Lucic

IMHO :picard:

Wow that is such a over payment JB would be shot to give that up

Take Lucic and their first 8th overall and their Second 38th overall for Sutter retain 40%, Granlund and Goldobin

Edmonton gets Scoring help Defensive help and penalty kill help. this package helps them a lot makes them playoff bound.

Sutter (Retained 25%), Goldobin for Lucic and 8th OA

They get a scoring winger, a defensive 3c and shed Lucic's contract in exchange for a top 10 pick - likely a pick that doesn't help them for another 2 years minimum.

May need to add a 3rd rounder on our end to get it done. A top 10 pick in this draft has a lot of value. Its like getting a top 5 pick in other drafts, very deep prospect pool in this years first round, especially the top 15.

I’m confused by people who call Goldobin a scorer.  His career high is 8 goals and 27 points.  Doesn’t scream scorer.

Jujar Khaira, Milan Lucic (with the agreement to waive his NMC) + 8th overall

for

Brent Sutter, Loui Eriksson + 2nd round pick this year

Oilers get their foundational player to put them over the top, plus he's a Sutter!

and more cap hit.  This deal limits their flexibility even more and hurts their future by moving out 8th overall without gaining the necessary cap space to make a move to really improve their team.

It's unclear whether Sutter still has the speed to keep up after all his injuries.
