Comets were down 2-0 late in second and come back to win 3-2 in regulation. Lind had an assist, wonder how he looked at centre. Anyone with AHL live?

I missed the 1st period, but watched the last 2.  Honestly, it was hard to evaluate the centers (see my earlier post) cos the linesmen were obviously following a new hockey mandate to crack down on faceoff violations.  Belleville drew a penalty, similar to what happened in the Canucks game the other night, for successive violations in the same faceoff, drawing the same response from the Comets broadcaster that we heard in the  Canucks game "I can't remember when last I saw that called"

The listed centers were Hamilton, Banks, Lind and Jasek, all of whom at one point were tossed out.  Also saw Baertschi,  Bailey, Gadovitch, Boucher, and even Brisebois take a face off.  From what I did see, Lind held his own, one of his, in the o-zone, knocking forward for Baertschi to dart forward to retrieve - dunno if it was a planned play, but at the time I thought so cos Baertschi broke as soon as the puck dropped.

So you'll gather faceoffs were scrambly affairs, with the second man in being very tentative so as to not draw a penalty.  The crowd eventually booed the linesmen every time he ejected a center,  but it still didn't stop them!!

Nice to see The Bro-man with 2 more helpers. This kid's a bonus present under the tree.

Bro Rafferty was a great college free agent signing. Good job by the college scouts. JB signed Teves at the same to identical contracts. First the one year end of the season contract with them staying in Vancouver instead of Utica, burning a year of waiver eligibility (which enraged those special posters on that other Canuck boards). I'm certain this was part of the contact negotiation but some people don't want to contemplate this. Brilliant move really, taking advantage of the fact Vancouver wasn't going to make the playoffs and free'd them to play prospects till the end of the year. Then they both got two year deals with the first year being a two way contract and the second they both get $700, the league minimum, one way deals. This turned out to be a very good, low risk gamble. Rafferty was maybe more of a gamble than Teves at the time considering he's partially blind in one eye. Rafferty is second amongst all AHL d-men in points in this his rookie season. Although he is 24 already, a great free agent signing. Even if he doesn't crack the Canucks lineup next year, they're getting their money's worth for one of the best offensive D-men in the AHL and he should only get better. Teves on the other hand has struggled and been a healthy scratch lately doesn't mean he's a bust.Lind and Gadjovich were written off by many last season and they've improved a lot this season, especially Lind.

Wouldn't mind if they keep trying this strategy. With D, hard to say when they're only 18. In the case of Tanev, we've gotten 500 games of good service outa' the bloke.

I'd like to see Big Nik, Bro & Myers on the RhD next season..guessing they'll surprise with strong performance.

Yes, good point. Stecher was a college free agent as well. I like Stecher but i don't think they'll qualify him at the end of the year if they sign Nik Tryamkin. Big Nik is free to sign with the Canucks at the end of the KHL season. The team can either release him directly after their playoffs or make him wait till the off season. I don't think they'd do that to him if he wanted to come back to the NHL so he could be back for the last 10 games or so. Would make a playoff push very interesting and to have two defensemen over 6'7 that can skate and provide offence.....wow. i don't think many teams in the western conference would want to play us.

The Comets have acquired C John Stevens from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in exchange for future considerations.

The Canucks have also returned Zack MacEwen to the Comets.

This should help the Center situation.

Finally, some depth has arrived to OUR farm team!

Rafferty is 1st in points for d-men with 32 points. Pouliot is 2nd with 28.

They are about the same age, but Rafferty we hope will be a top four for us.

I don't doubt that at all. Rafferty may be 24 but this is his 1st professional season and he is progressing at an amazing rate. He only had 8 points in his 1st 15 games this season but has 25 points (including tonight) in his past 23 games. That is an outstanding scoring pace for a rookie, let alone a rookie d-man. I have no doubt the Canucks will give him every opportunity to play in the top 4 and the rest will be up to him.

It’s like Rafferty’s biggest asset is his smarts, which was Pouliot’s biggest problem.

Yep.  The specific thing I see in Rafferty is the quickness of his offensive reads (this is also a strength of Juolevi, but Juolevi does not have Rafferty’s skating. Rafferty also had a lot to overcome:
