Possibly an unpopular opinion, but..

..I think that we should show a vote of confidence in our head coach, Travis Green.

 

Now hear me out before you start saying "That's crazy bro we have a loosing (sic) record" - there could well be some merit in offering Green a contract extension.

 

Obviously anyone would perform better with job security, so I'm of the impression that locking up TG for our cup run window years would be a prudent decision. There are many here that are scapegoating old Travis right now, so I can understand why this might be an unpopular opinion, but I think he's probably one of the top 3-5 coaches available in the world right now, so it'd be a mistake to let him walk like Marky and Tanev. (I'd say Toffoli too but he's still overrated)

 

I see this possibly having a cascading effect down to the boys on the ice, and Travis Green's renewed confidence will spill over onto the team on the ice - causing us to go on a huge tear and make the playoffs (we're still not mathematically eliminated by the way).

 

What do you guys think? And what kind of term/money would we offer to deter Mr. Green from accepting a more lucrative offer from the other 30 teams in the league that would be ecstatic to have his services?

 

I'd go 4 years, $40 million if I were Aquilini, for reference's sake.

I don't know about you but we don't have a topic discussing the merits of extending our loyal and skilled coach to a long-term contract - quite the opposite in fact, and life is all about balance, so maybe just calm down and return to the discussion when you're more able to express your opinions in an eloquent and mature manner.

I'm sorry you feel that way but that truly is not the case. And whether or not I support Travis Green is not the issue at hand here. It's whether or not we should hold onto him so another team doesn't get him.

I'm not sure if Bettman would allow it but you probably would only want to go 10 years max - just in case cloning becomes an option in the near future

But just imagine how good he will coach if he has ultimate job security. Thinking they could just throw you to the curb after 10 years is a scary prospect. Tenure 4 life - we all know how much tenured individuals go the extra mile.
