Other teams making mistakes doesn't mean that we should be making them as well.

Except that this is how the market is set. What comparable players make on the open market absolutely affects the salaries GMs have to pay to attract players.

I'd like to hear the source.   Just idiotic.  Was it the janitor that said this?  Maybe JB was rewarding him before exposing him.   Or maybe he was just signing him because he realized with the LWs available under free agency in that price bracket better to go with what you know and has no intention to expose him.   Yes we will find out.

i honestly don't believe it. especially since  jim is known for putting amendments in current contracts

Fans calling fans of other teams silly names is pretty standard, it doesn't mean anything.

It's not tangible evidence of other hockey fan bases looking down on Canucks fans in particular.

right, cause starting a riot and being called out for it means nothing. we have some really good fans, and then we got the others.

these others are a sad group, that thrive on hate. you know who also thrived on hate? trump supporters, yes i'm going there. ive heard too many times on this board that wished serious harm to these peoples health.

if zach hyman actually pulls down $5 mil x 5 years on the open market like lebrun thinks he might, will people still complain about pearson's $3.25 x 3 years?

Yes.  And Hyman for sure is a better player.   He's been solid for them for years.

Honestly not sure what you're going on about.

We can agree to disagree on if the riot was a reflection on actual Canucks fans.

And really does it even matter? If he was a RW maybe my head would have exploded.  Our left side is awfully thin.

Its not going to make any difference to Aqua, we're moving the right direction and stunts by glue sniffing morons isn't going to influence a billionaire who makes decisions on actual knowledge.

Like hiring Torts for 1 year?

e/ against the wishes of his GM that gave him the most successful team in franchise history, only to fire both a year later.

yes, at least in the immediate term. that said, if not for the flat cap, I believe things would have gone differently. I'm willing to extend him the benefit of the doubt over those losses, knowing that his stated intentions were to bring those guys back and that he lacks the guile to be a bald-faced liar about it.

Flat cap was known about back in April of last year, before our "playoff run".

Lots of time and information to make the correct decisions. But, as Benning put it himself, he "ran out of time".

What a debacle that was. He should have kept Alain, he wasn’t aging out his team was.

except that the people who harp on "asset management" constantly treat the players like they're anonymous pawns and not 3 dimensional human beings. the happiness of the individuals and the group, the team chemistry, the off-ice roles players fill, all these things outweigh the spreadsheets and stats and pts per $.

There's FAR more to building a team than eking every last drop off value out of team assets (AKA players, AKA humans, as you pointed out). It's certainly a part of team building but it is not the actual goal, nor should it be the only focus.

It also myopically ignores the value in retaining those players.

And regardless, we're hardly left wanting in regards to our prospect pool and organizational depth despite this so called asset management 'failing'. Forest. Trees.

Not that it was directly suggested otherwise, but it's possible for one to understand the human element of the game and still think the Benning firing is justifiable simply due to asset management, or lack thereof.

I am having a hard time understanding why so many want to fire the best GM we have ever had.
I am starting to think they are fans like Arty over at SN.

I am having a hard time understanding why a GM that has led the team to more bottom-5 finishes than playoff rounds would be considered "the best GM we have ever had"?

Like I know our franchise doesn't have the most storied history but jeez...
