Why do Canucks fans always look backwards instead of forwards?

correcting errors is not looking backward.

imagine you can re acquire Tanev and Toffoli, at the good price. this only issue is we had them already and let them go for nothing ; and it's hard to admit we have to pay something to erase mistakes. It's a matter of big picture, not the details.

But since the Tryamkin "fiasco" (do you use this term in english? ) i'm wondering if the main mistake to erase is letting Benning as a GM.

FWIW Tanev has played every one of the Flames 52 games this season.  Go figure....

He comes at a $4.5 cap hit and that's just not going to work for the Canucks.  Hamonic would have to go but he's on an expiring $1.25 hit and I would expect him to re-sign for double or less.  Relief is on the way cap wise but Benning has priorities to sign and still has to be careful.

Why would Hamonic have to go?

Hughes-Tanev

Schmidt-Rathbone

Juolevi-Myers

Hamonic

Just let Edler walk, re-acquire Tanev, and spend the $1.5m on some scoring.

He's not available. The Flames love Tanev. Their coaches have publicly said that he made Hanifin much better. He made Quinn look great last year as well. Unfortunately, the Flames overpaid to get him - afaik, the Canucks were going to try to match the annual value but not the term. The Flames also overpaid to get Markstrom. If not for re-signing Virtanen (because he was so close to the magical 20-20 threshold) and the prolonged courtship of Ekmann-Larsson, we would have been able to retain Tyler Toffoli and even Stecher iirc.

You bet your last dollar the Laffs *WISHED* they overpaid for Markstrom.  That team ain't going anywhere in the post-season with Anderson (or whoever they put in net).

He didn't miss a single game in his last season for us as well.

Was injured last season, would have missed games, but the covid break was long enough for him to heal up.

Getting rid of Tanev was a mistake in hindsight

If Tanev was younger and had a better trak record, health wise, it might have been a mistake to let him go.

However Chris is not younger, and does not have a great history of healthy seasons.

Moving on was the right thing to do, even if it hurts a bit.
