People giving Bo way too much credit this game. He showed up when it mattered and that's about the only time you saw him. Nice first goal, a gift wrapped second goal. The hard work is clearly being done by guys like Garland, Hoglander, Hughes, Poolman, OEL and Demko.

We have some guys who are very capable of scoring but not capable of driving the bus and I think that's what is gonna hurt this team in the long run. Guys like Garland is who every GM should be looking to acquire. Hyman is doing the same thing in Edmonton right now and that's a great pickup as well.

I still want to see Hoglander and Garland play more together but the other lines have way too many passengers. Dickinson deserves more ice time.

Demko stole one tonight. Shades of Markstrom.

Just so many guys not willing to move their skates when it matters.

God the coaching sucks hahaha

People gonna nit pick.It was a nice win regardless

Be patient with Petey, I agree with whoever on the panel who pointed out that he's played about 40 games in the past two years, and missing most of last season and the preseason has set him back. He looks a little tentative, but I saw a couple of flashes of the old Petey hockey sense tonight, not enough, but some. It's probably going to take about 20 games to get him somewhere back to normal. Also don't forget that Brock missed most of the preseason, so the Lotto Line looking like garbage is not a surprise. They will get it together, but it's a work in progress. Thankfully the team has much better secondary scoring and can weather the storm.

Missing the preseason was his own choice.

Literally lose the game if Bo isn’t there to put the puck in the net. Amazing

Maybe. But they definitely lose the game if it’s 5-1 after the 2nd period if not for Demko standing on his head when the forwards especially were terrible in our zone most of the game. Including Horvat.

This is really unsustainable but points are points.

I feel Garland and Horvat has built chemistry which is great for Canucks. Garland is a 1st line winger and played like one in Arizona. Having him with Horvat makes our 2nd line look like a 1st line and frees up the Miller-Pettersson-Boeser line which have not gelled yet and they need to get their timing back. Boeser missed almost all the preseason while Petersson missed all of training camp ad some of the preseason games. I hope Podkolzin gets to play with Hoglander and Dickenson. Anyone know when Motte will be back?

And LOL at the trade Rathbone nonsense. The Negativity Peddler’s need something to latch onto after a winning road trip I guess. Guys…your boy OJ’s gone and he ain’t coming back.

Serious question: what has Rathbone done so far, which makes him so valuable to the team? And I'm not talking about points he scored in college, or in a few games at the AHL level, or in pre-season, or even a handful of NHL games, but what has he done this year? I do think Rathbone has the potential to become a pretty good NHL d-man, but I don't see him being any more than (at best) a second pairing d-man. Should Rathbone show us otherwise, I would be happy to see it, assuming he does this with the Canucks. What he has shown (to my eye) is zero point production, a few commendable defensive plays, and also a greater number of defensive gaffs.

I'm not so sure as to the pace of Rathbone's development if he continues to play bottom pairing minutes behind Ekman-Larsson and Hughes. I wouldn't mind seeing him getting top pair minutes this season in the AHL, which would (hopefully) speed his development along. Rathbone is going to continue to be a bottom pairing d-man for Vancouver until one of Ekman-Larsson or Hughes is out of the picture (due to injury or trade or UFA status). True, assuming Rathbone does develop (which he still needs to do) having him as a back up to Ekman-Larsson and Hughes would be a luxury.

What does anybody see as Rathbone's future with this team? I see a trade as being likely, not because I dislike the kid, or that I think he's useless. From my perspective, team needs come first, so if moving Rathbone makes sense, then he's gone especially if he is moved to help fill a team need. Keeping a guy around just because a portion of the fanbase adore that player doesn't make a lot sense.

The team needs help on the right side of the defense. Assuming Juulsen doesn't pan out in the near future (or ever), then there's no help there. Woo is a couple of years away (assuming he continues to improve), and Bowey is still suspect in the eyes of the coaches, despite an okay showing in the pre-season. What might be an attractive piece of trade bait to get another team to part with a RD? Answer: Jack Rathbone, and assuming he develops the return could be greater.

Another angle on this is, what does Rathbone think about his future here, where he will (potentially) be stuck behind Ekman-Larsson and Hughes for the next 6 years (and likely Hughes for additional years beyond those initial six)? Rathbone would be 28+ by that time. I'm going to assume that Rathbone would have his own plans for his future, personal goals in the game, team success, and the chance at a bigger paycheck, which he isn't very likely going to get here, as a bottom pairing d-man. I'm assuming Rathbone will ask for a trade, or choose to sign elsewhere once he has reached UFA status, or perhaps even he will push the matter when he becomes an RFA.

So, I've provided a good reason to send Rathbone to the AHL (development), and two possible scenarios as to why he could be traded (team needs and/or player goals). Anyone got any counters? I'm open to changing my mind.

I rather have the lotto line play together more until they get their timing back. I would leave the Pearson-Horvat-Garland line alone. Besides, Petersson is a better playmaker at center compared to Miller. I think both Pettersson and Boeser need to play more to get their timing back. Third line should have Hoglander and Podkolzin playing with Dickenson.

Pettersson is pretty terrible at playmaking right now no matter where he is playing. And he is terrible on faceoffs. Having both struggling players on one line is clearly not working. Especially if they are relying on the current version of moody Miller the giveaway machine to spark them. Sorry the lotto line guys should actually probably all be on separate lines right now. Their chemistry is non existent.

Moving Pearson off that line with Horvat and Garland changes fundamentally nothing. He is pretty much a step behind them and a passenger most of the time anyway. Has 3 or 4 good shifts a game and outside of that does nothing of significant value at either end.

As of this moment there is nobody in our farm that can replace him on the third pairing, and his value isn't as high as it could be right now, so any return for Rathbone would likely be underwhelming. And even if we were to move him for a right D, we would still need to find someone to take his place on the left side.

What’s your point? They won the game but didn’t play well at all outside of Demko and a couple of players. They went nearly 20 min without a shot on goal. They were out worked, out battled, and out hustled to pucks all night.

We should just thank Demko for stealing a game they deserved to lose.

As of this moment there is nobody in our farm that can replace him on the third pairing, and his value isn't as high as it could be right now, so any return for Rathbone would likely be underwhelming. And even if we were to move him for a right D, we would still need to find someone to take his place on the left side.

This is true. The depth on D was severely botched.

If Juulsen can become anything again, maybe that helps. But the D depth is not good at all.
