Edmonton needs defensemen, so they draft Marino with the 3rd pick in the 6th round of the 2015 draft.

They hold onto him, still needing defensemen, for 4 years, and in 2019 trade him for a 2021 6th round pick.

That's Edmunchuk for y'all.

Just imagine how much better they would look with Bear and Marino on their team. I'm so happy they are so butt at running a franchise. I just love seeing them not succeed after having such a huge horse shoe up their butt the last decade.

And then add in drafting Dobson instead of Bouchard.  Edmonton just really doesn't seem to care if their defencemen can actually play defence.

The Edmonton Oilers did some asset management by moving out John Marino. It was becoming clear that Marino was not likely to sign in Edmonton so Ken Holland sent him to Pittsburgh. In return Edmonton received a conditional sixth-round pick in 2021.  Since that trade, he hasn’t looked back.

Gotta hurt when you finally draft a good one late and they wait out their chance to escape.

The Canucks want and need right D men. Yet, this board wants to move Myers, Hamonic, and Poolman? If anyone gets moved its a forward for a dman.

Yup; and Poolman was rounding into form before his latest setback; looking forward to seeing where he's at once he gets back.

I can see moving a dman as part of a deal, or in a setup deal towards final deals.

But these are 3 big righties and it would have to end up with an even better RHD forcing guys down the order.

They want and need a good d man. Canucks including poolman or Hamonic in a trade is the cap dump that is essential when dealing in an advantageous position

where on the team are the desired right d men going to play if you don't move some of those guys?

You need more than 3 or 4 capable RHDs to Win The Cup.

These suggested lineups that do not consider all the players teams go through to make it all the way are simplistic.

sure, but the guys the team wants to acquire aren't #7-10 guys and the guys currently in the lineup aren't #7-10 guys either, so something has to give.

How do any of us mere fans know who 'the team wants to acquire'?

Management doesn't show their hand until the deal is done.

Team trade is way too impatient; like kids at Christmas pretending they know what Santa is going to do.

For all we know PIT might be open to a Boeser for Marino straight up trade, but that's a bad deal for VAN.  Maybe PIT doesn't even become a trading partner.

Poolman and Rathbone for Marino sounds fair

Pretty sure that puts us over the salary cap.
