Both teams hung their goalies out to dry... no support.

And to make it worse, both team's goalies played poorly.

Markstrom had his worst game of the season his positioning was completely off... he was back in the net and not challenging at all.

Mike Smith reverted to standard form... he is a streak goalie... either he plays well or he plays like cr*p.... tonight he played like cr*p.

Koskinnen was not much better.

But each side feasted offensively... but with the Oiler D being inferior to the Flames, they got the worst of it.

I predict both sides will tighten up next game.  Sutter will not be happy with this game... he will give his guys a rocket for their sloppy D play.

I guess the fans had fun... but if either of these teams think they have a chance to make the finals, they will need to change their play.

Oilers made a mistake at the end of the game by trying to challenge the Flames physically... this is not the same soft Flames team of a few years back.

This is perhaps the toughest team in the league... if the Oilers want to start a fight they will end up losing.  You could see what happened to Kassian when he tried to challenge Lucic... he ended up on his A$$ instantly.  And Lucic isn't even the toughest player on Calgary...  Zadorov is a beast... and the toughest of the bunch is Gudbranson, who may be slightly lighter, but at 6'5" he has reach and a massive punch and can rock it with anyone in the league.  And their top bruisers get tired they have Brett Richie as their second string heavyweight at 6'4" 220... plus Blake Coleman, Trevor Lewis and Mikael Backlund as backup middleweights... all over 200 lbs and scrappy.  Tkachuk doesn't have to raise a glove... he can sit back and watch.  Gaudreau can cheer from the sidelines.  And if anyone needs a rest, they can bring in Adam Ruzica from the reserve at 6'4" 220.

Connor McDavid will put his team on his back, but not sure he can do it all with Draisaitl injured.  The rest of the team will need to put up a massive effort defensively and the second and third lines will need to start scoring.  Kassian needs to stop thinking about fighting Lucic and focus on scoring.

By the way, watching Gudbranson in this game... made me think about how poorly Green coached him.

On Calgary, Gudbranson plays all situations, he plays PK, he plays against McDavid, he does everything.

He and Zadorov are a brutal pair to face.... they can just PUNISH the opposition.

Did Markstrom struggle with his glove hand when he was a Canuck?

He was often accused of letting in a soft goal to start every game. And many times he did.

They were mostly slap shots from mid to long range.

It seemed like he did struggle with his glove hand up until his last year and a half or two with the Canucks. He would often get his glove on it but not catch it cleanly, thus giving up rebounds off of it.

Perhaps people have different levels of expectations for entertainment some people like seeing goals. Doesn't mean its wrong.

I mean you are still intentionally watching it so the game is a draw enough for you to watch it.

Regardless of it being media driven you're still willing to tune into it.

That was a sloppy, poorly played game by any measure, imo.

did I not predict that the flames would eat Smith alive?

My dog in this fight has to be the Flamers. Marky, Tanev, Guddy and Toff. Marky deserves a CUP shot, so does Tanev. All the Oilers have is Kass and he had a pretty decent game.

Going in we knew the Oiler tending was really questionable as it was all season. That alone loses the series for them. Add to that the Oiler d-core which is also ????

IMHO Nurse is seriously over rated. His -3 last night was indicative of his play. 48 Calgary shots last night. Oilers can talk about being better all night but where will that come from. Marky will be a lot better as well.

Oilers don't have a chance.

or how about ' the series where Mcdavid wants out of Deadmonton ' ?

He's gotta be thinking, I got 4 points in one game...we scored 6 and we STILL lost by 3 ?

How hard is it to get a tender that can ACTUALLY stop the puck ? or how about some D that can defend?

Personally he should look in the mirror. How hard does he backcheck? How often does he leave the zone hoping for a breakaway? Maybe he shouldn't have been so greedy with hogging so much of the payroll so that they had some cash to spend elsewhere on the team.

Just saying...

Holy @#$%×+ gambling ads ... it's non-stop!

I’m happy you said this. As someone who has had to end my relationship with a family member due to their addiction to gambling. It really disgusts me how much this is thrown into our faces.

We get it, sports betting is now legal but JFC do we need to get three betting ads in a commercial break? This is the first freaking year this has happened and it’s already overblown. Sure we could say alcohol and fast food ads aren’t good as well but they hardly have as much air time as bet365, online casino, 649 Lotto max etc.

How can you know your limit and play within it if it’s all you see between the plays?

Wtf was that?

When oil mixes with flames you know “there will be blood”. This is going to be such a great series. Highest scoring playoff game since 1993.
