What were his stats before and after? I don’t recall. I just know he struggled and that was probably after the injury.

Year one was before the injury. Two and three were after. 39-point pace in year one (highest pace of his career) and a combined average of an 18-point pace over the next two seasons.

Ok, I missed something. How did Roussel's become apart of the Mikheyev's discussion?

He was brought up on the previous page because he had the same injury as Mikheyev and Roussel stated it took him a year and a half to feel normal again after his surgery.

That’s why his offensive production suffered after the surgery.

There were concerns the same thing may happen with   Mikheyev.

Probably related to injury discussions. We allow discussions to wander a little off topic as long as it doesn't last too long and totally take over the thread.

Sounds like management dropped the ball in regards to dealing with injuries again if Mikheyev is not ready to play at 100% by the start of the season.  It would have been optically terrible to announce Mik would have to undergo surgery right after training camp last season, right after we got him.  But it sounds like it would have been the correct and prudent move in the long run.  He may have then even been able to test it out for a few games at the end of last season. And  more importantly be able to work out more aggressively this summer to be ready for this season.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course. But if its true a player needs at least one full year to recover properly from this kind of surgery, ie. Roussel, then management has shot itself in the skate. If he's questionable for training camp, that does not bode well for any thought that he will be the player when he signed here to start in October this year. And may take most of the season to catch up, maybe taking him off the top six.  I hope not. I do not get why any team would delay a needed surgery to a top six player, unless they were regarded to be a team on the cusp of a Stanley Cup contending season.

Would it really be so horrible if Mik wasn't ready to play and stayed on LTIR until sometime during the season? It's not as if we will need to be using Megna or Chaput to fill in for him. We have an abundance of wingers, some young, promising, deserving a shot and who are worth watching.

Injury depth is part of the game. Anybody remember a dozen or so years ago when it seemed to be a given at the start of the season that Bieksa was tradebait because we had too many solid/expensive #2/3 Dmen? But through the magic of LTIR, when the playoffs rolled around we still had: Salo, Hamhuis, Edler, Ehrhoff, Bieksa, Tanev, Ballard...

No, it wouldn’t be horrible, but I believe the team would be better with him in the lineup.

It would not only give opportunities to younger players,   but it will help management buy some time to make a better deal for one of their abundance of wingers and some cap relief.
