Quite honestly I just want to get out of the pre season without any more injuries. When Podz blocked that shot tonight I was like man here we go again. Don’t mind the vets not playing 110% right now. The last couple pre season games I would like to see the effort come together

This team always seems better when Burroughs plays.

I liked Wolanins simple yet effective game. Also like Kalynuk in the first preseason game. Both lhd's showed a lot of poise and not trying to do too much. Just make a good first pass and play steady defense.

Exactly, and that's what Schenn does too. Plus, he plays hard and is a deterrent.

Cap flexibility is nice but it would have been spent anyway. It always gets spent. Very few teams have cap flexibility and they are at the bottom of the league.

Because you have a lot of bad GM's in the league trying to save their jobs. Benning was no different, it was a hail mary because he knew he didn't have many bullets left in the chamber.

But someone else doing something stupid is not justification for you to also do something stupid.

It's the same argument we had when Myers was signed. "Well if we didn't give him 6M then someone else would have so it's a good contract!"

We have to be smarter than this lol

If he can be a solid 6 that’s a huge win.

At this point I don’t see him even being an 8. He’s two steps behind and not engaged at all. You can’t win with guys like that.

problem is his decision making. yes he's rusty but his instincts have been horrendous from the beginning.

someone said it before- the fact that he is 29 years old and only played 160 games in the league is NOT a good sign.

Dermott has always had solid decision making, but often leans more towards making the simple, safe, defensive play instead of taking the risk. With the right partner, and if his conditioning is up to par, he could potentially slide into the top-4 when called upon.

Asking poolman to play in the top-4 is like asking your dog to perform a tango and expecting a great dance performance.

Again you ignore context, in this case the makeup of our team.

Did we need another LH OFD when we already had Hughes?

Not to mention the trajectory of the team when it comes to our "window" for competing.

Why trade for a 30 year-old declining 7M+ player when you're like 3 years away from actually being a good team?

You need to think deeper than Benning level logic (gluing macaroni on construction paper).

"Good player? Get good player" won't cut it.

JBs problem wasn’t OEL; he would have be excellent as the 2nd line LD. His problem was getting screwed over by Hamonic, and over spending on Poolman. Schenn saved our ass last year, but we still haven’t replaced Hamonic..whom replaced Taney. We NEED to fix that, and this year. Time to make a trade even if it costs is some draft capital; it is a must.

But Myers was worth 6m that offseason, before Covid killed the yearly cap climb; contracts and the cap were going crazy.

In other words, OEL would have been fine if the rest of the defense was constructed properly to accommodate him.

Sure, I agree with that. But that wasn't the case, so in real life it was a dumb trade given the actual circumstances.

Still like the OEL trade man. Myers is too expensive yes. OEL is not really. We probably wouldn’t even be having this conversation if we just resigned Tanev. That is where the ball dropped.

No D-man that isn't a legit top-4 is worth 6M under any circumstances.

If you want to argue that he is a legit top-4 D-man despite never showing that as a Canuck except when he was carried by OEL we can just agree to disagree and stop here.

Myers is a top 4 d man period so yeah we can agree to disagree there.

Luckily this management group is being patient and not overpaying in trades and free agency but non-moves are getting mistaken for being happy with status-quo.

Hamonic really screwed us last year with his Covid BS. If he gets the shot, plays in camp and beginning of the season, we have 2 starting lines and depth. He didn’t, and the BS stretched into late December. There is a reason the players were happy to see him gone. IF Hamonic shows up, the plan was:

Highes-Hamonic

OEL-Myers

Burroughs/??-Poolman

Schenn

Not terrible. Problem we have this year is that spot is still not resolved. It needs to be fixed now.
