Simply can't play a lick of defence.  He needs to either move to forward or learn how to play his position.  Playing like he does in his own zone is simply not acceptable regardless of offensive output; you can't win when a guy doesn't care if he's playing like trash in his own zone.

He's mostly fine in the regular season, but post season yeah you cant trust him.  Probably why Colorado said thanks but no thanks rather pay someone else we can get just as much offense and not be a complete liability when it counts.

Wrong, just like you are with Reilly, not every dman has to be a stay at home one. How you refuse to grasp this is mind boggling.

Every Dman has to be able to play to at least a minimum standard defensively.  Neither Barrie nor Rielly have shown any hope of ever reaching that standard.

Except, he’s not as bad in his own end as you make him out to be which is the crux of your position. ;)

The funny thing is I never hear him ragging on Nurse, who looks like the defensive version of John Scott. If you're gonna rag on a guy who can't defend on the Oilers, you're picking on the wrong guy lol

Doesn’t really have to. He needs to be a passable Dman. Needs to be paired with a solid defensive partner who shoulders the defensive responsibility.

Then he produces offensively.

Much like what Hughes did.

The issue is that he isn't a passable dman and even Larry Robinson in his prime would struggle to babysit him.  He really needed a coach earlier in his career who had the guts to bench him until he learned how to play D; now it's too late.  You can't win with a guy who is that bad in his own zone.

So you consider refusing to play like an NHLer in one's own zone to be acceptable for a defenceman?  He simply doesn't belong on an actual NHL team, which is why he is still in Edmonton.

He wouldn’t have an NHL job or be a career NHLer if he “refused to play in his own zone.” You’ve made your mind up on him and refuse to look at his play objectively.

Basically, Barrie has played an important role for every team he’s been with.
Whether he’s a defensively sound Dman or not doesn’t matter. Offense is also driven from the back end, and especially on the PP. His pedigree shows he’s NHL level and perhaps even top 4 on most clubs.

Sorry @King Heffy but he’s not playing on PTOs. He’s a legit NHLer

Nurse is an NHLer but he's overpaid by 7 million and is an absolute gutless piece of garbage.  His sisters are closer to real men than that flopper.
