Tanev played more games than Bo Horvat and OEL since the bubble

and he signed for $4.5M

and his contract is up after next season

still a better choice than OEL

If there was anyone to be renewed it was Tanev, even with his injury history.

But Benning's blundering messed things up.

In hindsight he should have traded Jake and Gaudette for whatever he could.

The $5 million or so saved, could have at least taken care of Tanev.

They would have had to move Brock or other moves to keep Toffoli, who seemed like a good fit.

I'm ok with letting Markstrom go.

The funny part is he dug himself a deeper and deeper hole when he trying to fix things.

They have prospects on paper, but, can they play in the bigs? I'm interested in seeing a kid like Woo get his chance. Maybe Brisbois, Juulsen or Wolanin. Johansson, Jurmo, are they ready? These free agents signings either bite you or they work out well. But, most teams overpay, and I mean really overpay. Back when Myers was a FA, I don't recall too many saying they didn't think $6M was too much for him. Same with Loui Eriksson, he had come off 3 or 4 good seasons and looked like a sure fire fit for the twins.

Karlsson

Klim

Bains

Hogz

Woo

Rathbone

Silovs

all look great and all have a better than decent chance at an NHL career

I loved Tanev, but it was time to move on

I see a left D with solid NHL potential in Pettersson and maybe Rathbone though likely not with us. One long shot right D in the system is about it. I don’t think anyone on right D in Abby has potential more than 6/7 D in NHL.
‘To say we need one right D ignores what we are lacking in the NHL and the system. Frankly I think we are 5-6 short as far as NHL right D and quality prospects. This is just slightly better than we are at centre.  The unspoken and maybe harder part here is the need to subtract a couple of the right D on the big club.

Yeah agreed on all but I do think this Johansson may be a pretty good find. He's doing very well. Hopefully we also have a to 15 RD in the system after the draft. Thank goodness Myers is out of here soon, and we'll see what happens with Schenn. Great teammate and good depth d but not remotely the answer either.

This I agree with. Just think of what we could have gotten back for those guys.

But if I remember, we were on the verge of making the "bubble playoffs"?

Either way, it sucks considering they walked for nothing.

At least we got a reasonably good return for Bo.

Like I've mentioned before, imagine how the Flamer fans feel about Johnny G.

Ya could you imagine the haul we could have got for all 3?
