I admit your are correct, and really, we cant even get two more Eathan Bears cause we got the one and only. As much as we love Quinn, he is more valuable as a sweetener to move OEL and Myers. However, If Millar is a better sweetener, especially how he has been playing of late, that would work better

Quinn doesn’t work as a sweetener as no team would be able to take on the 14 million in cap space. To move OEL think retaining some money for 6 more years and attaching multiple 1rst round picks. Miller is a good player you don’t need a sweetener to move him but you would need to take a player with salary back much like Beauvillier in the Horvat deal. If Miller was a free agent somebody would have to pay him this contract anyway. However with no cheap years left you won’t get much back but I do believe you could move him in the summer if they really wanted out.

then we can afford to re-sign Petey and Kuz in a few years

We can afford their raises anyway. After next season you lose Beauvillier, Pearson and Myers. That’s what like 13.5 million in cap space. The year after that Boeser’s and Poolmans contracts are up which is another 9.5 million in cap space. Don’t worry so much about things so far away. They’ll find a way to give money to the players you want to keep. Worry more about the good players asking for trades if we still suck.

Then we are left without a franchise dman.

we just bought a franchise Dman, we also have Bear, a cheap ass Burrows who can fight, Wols. We have franchise dmen, that dont include Myers and OEL

I wasnt saying get rid of millar, just let him go if he can take a OEL or Myers contract with him.

What team can take on 14 to 15.25 million in cap space to take on Miller and one of those dmen. Just remember we had to give away a 2nd round pick for somebody to take 2.65 million in Jason Dickinson. Salary cap is at a premium. Including Miller and Quinn with one of those dmen just isn’t realistic because nobody has that much cap space.

Quinn Hughes is a Franchise dman. Our version of Brian Leetch and just for "cap space" you would get rid of him?

Then what?

we have good defense when you take OEL and Myers out. Look at abbotsford. get rid of those two cap hits and the future is friendly.

We’re rumoured to be in on Max Andreev from Cornell.

He’s their top line center, and excels in a checking role. Good on face offs, 6 ft, 182 lbs., Russian. Maybe we can land him and teammate Sam Malinski. They play Harvard in the semifinal tonight.

Probably a good idea to sign a veteran 3rd C as a stop gap the next 2ish years. Raty/Aman/etc will take time to grow and it would be good to have an example to learn more from as well as help us in the short term.

Agreed, a veteran on a 2-3 year deal would be great.

Yeah signing someone for 2 years would also help if management are set on an OEL buy out.

As the peak $4.8m cap penalty on OEL will start in 2025-26. If we had a vet 3C signed for just 2 years and then bank on Raty or Aman stepping into the role for a lower cap hit, that would help manage the cap.

Eller (33) or Haula (31) could potentially be interested in a 2-year deal. But both are lefties.

Other younger options like Compher, Kampf, Domi likely want something longer.

Brings me back to Gaudreau or Rodrigues as UFA righty 3C's.

@mll thinks Gaudreau will be resigned by MIN, so Rodrigues might be our main target if we go UFA.

If we bought out OEL and traded one of Garland/Boeser we could afford $3.5m x 2 years, and still have plenty of cap available to rebuild the defense.

I think buying out OEL is a last resort and not needed to be able to sign a stop gap 3rd C.

Trading one or two of Boeser, Garland, Myers while just waiting another year should do the trick without long term dead cap going into the 2030s.

If the rumour that OEL has been playing with a nagging injury this season, then it's best to leave any trade/buyout

ideas until next offseason.  I he returns to how he played last season, they will keep him.

Myers will be traded at some point in the offseason or during the 23/24 season (TDL)

I see that the Sharks really need a top 6 RW.  Their best RW is Lebanc, who isn't very good. He will be a ufa after

next season.

Brock Boeser + ?   ............................Nico Sturm C ($2mx2) + Mukhamadulin 21yrs LD  (KHL)

Brock is clearly showing more value in the past month, so I'm unsure about adding to this trade.  The Ducks

received Muk in the Meier trade so may demand a sweetener to let go of him.  Brock is certainly worth more

then Sturm alone.

Luke Clendenning

33 years old, Right Shot.

58.7% FO in 549 draws taken.

Has an expiring deal at $1.5M.

He looks like he could come at a reasonable cap hit and term as a stop gap.

Nico Sturm looks like an intriguing trade option out of San Jose if a deal can be made to offload one of our contracts.  A big body that can win face offs and play some meaningful minutes.  Only down side is he shoots left.  Work something around Garland or Beauvillier maybe?
