@6of1_halfdozenofother @Seannnp

this is from puck pedia

An individual contract can only have a maximum of 2 teams retaining salary on it.

The maximum amount of retained salary by a team is 15% of the Salary Cap for the current year

so yes, sjs retain on EK and trade him to Chicago, Chicago retains on EK and trades him to Vancouver is absolutely do-able

also,

The Blackhawks retained 50 percent of Kane's remaining pro-rated salary cap charge, and the Coyotes made the cap math work for the Rangers by joining the trade as a third team and retaining 25 percent.

amend that proposal then to 5m retained by SJ and 750k by CHI. Little bit easier to swallow for SJ, cap hit increases for use by 750k. Karlsson at 5.75 is still a steal.

Just now, 6of1_halfdozenofother said:

The second sentence only limits total cap hit that a team can retain for all players traded out.  If you bother to look at the sentence directly above the spot you quoted, you'll see:

Which refers to the total amount of a contract that can be retained by all parties.

The Blackhawks retained 50 percent of Kane's remaining pro-rated salary cap charge, and the Coyotes made the cap math work for the Rangers by joining the trade as a third team and retaining 25 percent.

You're diverting

you said a players contract can on be retained upon once.

I showed otherwise and now you are arguing pro rated.

that's nothing to do with what Sean proposed, 3 way trade with sjs and Chicago retaining on the same contract regardless of the cap hit has been done before and literally provided a very recent example.

You = reading comprehension fail.

For reference, this is what I wrote before you started jumping on me.

I think you're the one who's moving goalposts here.

You= functional brain fail

I joked, the rumoured Myers to Sjs sharks trade is being held up by EK contemplating waiving his NMC/NTC for Vancouver.

@Seannnp proposed a 3 way trade with Sjs, Chicago and Vancouver

Sjs would retain on EK, trade him to Chicago

Chicago would also retain on EK, then trade him to Vancouver

You stated a NHL contract can only be retained upon once, I provided factual evidence to the contrary and a recent example of Patrik Kane trade last season where, surprise surprise Chicago retained 50% and traded Kane to Arizona who then retained 25% and sent Kane to NYR.

Who's the one moving goal posts? not I or Sean.

Nope, it's 50% total for the limit in terms of retention of the player's salary, no matter split between two teams or by the original team.  Max retention for Karlsson's contract would be $5.75mil.

75% retention is possible by using a 3rd team.

Only 2 teams can retain on the same contract.  Each team can retain up to 50% on their share.

Team A retains 50% and trade the other 50% to team B.

Team B can retain 50% on their share - ie 50% of 50% is 25%.

Team C can get the player at 25%.

I wanna see a juicy 6x6 contract or UFA is a waste of time

I think Klingberg will get it, just hope it's not us who dishes it out.

I predict Dumba and Klingberg will be on the move but Mayfield surely stays. I think we sign Soucy for like 3.5M and that's it. We go into next year with two top 4 guys and four bottom 2 guys.

sure will be interesting

if we fail to move out a winger today, i dont really see how much changes

we pick up soucy (not really sure how much more value hes gonna give us over OEL)

+ maybe a cheap 3C like acciari?

thats prob all we can afford to do, though would like to see us prioritize having a backup goalie that can win some games

With the current climate I think the big hope is that we can snag a UFA on a 1 year show me contract.

If Matt Dumba, for example, wants to prove he’s still got game who better to showcase with than Quinn Hughes?

Could be some win-win opportunities out there.  Not sure who’d want their head caved in showcasing as our 3C though.  Maybe someone who wants to retire but their wife keeps bugging them to make money.:lol:

Ryan O'Reilly or Matt Duchene would do just fine.

I wonder if we are intending to sign Cal Foote or if the target is more obscure/out of box option like an Andrej Sustr for depth?

Apparently some rumour still going around that were about to sign a large (tall) Dman…

It's also players updating their no trade lists from last year.  The Taylor Hall trade where he goes from a contender to Chicago probably got a few players to pay more attention on the teams they have on their no trade lists.

Myers and his camp are probably well aware of all the noise surrounding a trade after his bonus is paid out and has now the opportunity to file an updated list.
