Miller was the more obvious choice due to the passion he brings but also could have been a detriment due to that same heat. Now to speak the quiet part out loud. Is this to get ahead of his next contract? Is this to see about ensuring he is not Jersey bound in a few years? Or is this just a common sense nomination for captaincy? Fanuck Posted September 11, 2023 Share Posted September 11, 2023 Whether you like this decision or not (I think it's a great choice), it's a good idea to name the captain right now. I wanted Miller. Thought he was the better choice from a slightly older veteran standpoint. Especially due to the passion he brings, which could have been an advantage because of that same heat. Just as important as who is captain is getting the decision made and announced prior to seasons puck drop. Failure to designate a captain prior to opening night is just going to create yet another distraction contributing to uncertainty amongst the players and fanbase as to this teams identity. We already have key players whose start date is questionable. Seems like every year has turmoil of one sort or another before we’ve even played a game. Petey reminds me of a slightly more reserved Naslund... If that's possible lol! It was to much on Nassy. It appeared like he wasn't having as much fun playing when he became Captain... Especially when the team started losing and not reaching expectations. Miller is to overtly emotional to be a captain... Similar personality to Kesler... That's why I thought Henrik was the best choice last time the management chose a captain. Hughes was the best choice for this emotionally scared market... But time will tell if we keep losing... It might wear on him as well. Ultimately, I'm just glad it wasn't the other two... It would have been a gong show with Miller at the mike every game and it would have stressed poor Petey out to the point he'd want out sooner than later.
