dudeone
State House passes bill allowing concealed weapons in schools, day care centers, stadiums, churches By Kathleen Gray Detroit Free Press Staff http://www.freep.com...ay-care-centers Changes to the concealed weapons law passed the state House on Thursday evening, allowing highly trained gun owners to carry their concealed weapons in formerly verboten places, such as schools, day care centers, stadiums and churches. Schools, however, and privately owned facilities could opt out of the new law if they don't want people carrying guns in their buildings. The gun bill also requires the Michigan State Police, rather than local law enforcement, to maintain gun permitting records. Police said it was crucial to have at least one agency hold on to records, citing the I-96 shooter case last month, which was solved in part, by going back through gun records. State Rep. Joel Johnson, R-Clare, called the bill a “pro-public safety bill because it allowed gun owners to be an “asset” to public safety in volatile situations. But opponents, including state Rep. Joan Bauer, D-Lansing, said the bill went too far. “There are just some areas where guns should not be allowed,” she said. The bill still needs to go back to the state Senate for concurrence. Heretic
Well...there are 2 sides to this story. Those against it, those for it. Just want to toss this out there, imagine if teachers carried a concealed weapon, today's tragedy may have had less fatalities if some adult working in the school took out the shooter before they took out innocent lives. TOMapleLaughs
After today, it'll be determined that every school needs a Wesley Snipes. The problem is they'll be getting this instead:

Mr. Ambien
I like the way it sounds but this seems nothing more than symbolic given the opt-out clause.

Scottish⑦Canuck
If it even has a chance to prevent one more massacre put all the taxes you want into it. Even if it was to be a swat member present at school on a daily basis. Just give me one single headline that reads 'gunman killed opening fire at school, nobody else injured'. The media could fly that headline all day for all I care.

The Colt 45s
As a pastor in a church, I am all for conceal to carry at church. Too many times we have been targets. I have even been approached going to my car and had no way to defend myself because it was illegal to carry on the church grounds.

The Colt 45s
Yet you're alive to write this. One wonders if you would be had you gotten into a shootout in the parking lot...
inane
Coming out of the church you are a target because you cannot carry. If people though you could be carrying, they probably would leave you alone. Then again, I do not carry any cash or handle bank deposits.

Mr. Ambien
If they think you're carrying a gun they won't come after you? So then everyone gets a gun. Then what? Bazookas? That line of thinking is suicidal.
