We all know the 1st and 2nd overalls eventually develop into stud players, but what about the # 3 that so often gets overlooked.I have dedicated this thread to answering the question, if you could have 1 of the # 3 overall picks from the last 6 years, who would you take and why?

Let's suppose you're a GM and you want to begin your rebuild by acquiring one of these players.

The options:

2007 - Kyle Turris ©
2008 - Zack Bogosian (D)
2009 - Matt Duchene ©
2010 - Eric Gudbranson (D)
2011 - Jonathan Huberdeau ©
2012 - Alex Galchenyuk ©

4 F 2 D.

No love for Turris so far. I voted Gudbranson because a big shut down stud D is a good place to start a rebuild. He will be logging big minutes when his offensive game gets to the NHL level. Aside from Gudbranson I'd probably go with Huberdeau, he's going to be a scoring machine.

Right now: Matt Duchene
3 years from now: Eric Gudbranson

I'll go even farther, and say Alex Barkov will be the best 3rd Overall Pick!!

Ummm... Hank?

As for the players in the poll, right now Duchene is the clear winner but Gudbranson has the potential to be the best in 5 years' time, or at least the most important to his team.

Right now, it's Duchene but that could change in the next few seasons. Duchene has proven that he has all the tools but no toolbox. The guy's got limited hockey sense.

Any one of Galchenyuk, Huberdeau, or Gudbranson could end up better than him.

Edler, Markstrom, Hansen, 2nd round pick 2014 to Islanders for Ryan Strome, 5th overall pick 2014

This is fairly even as well.

Do you even know who Toews is? He's an Olympic Gold Medal winner, World Junior Gold Medal winner, and a Stanley Cup winner. All won before he turned 24 years old. As big of a fan as I am of Henrik I'd take Toews over him any day of the week.

No homer. I love that we have the Sedins, Henriks our best captain since Trevor (better than Nazzy). Awesome players, the epitomy of a Canuck, him and his brother, future hall of famers.

But Toews is a better all around hockey player.

And i hate the hawks!!

I do actually. Any hockey fan with common sense would take Toews over Henrik. Now by no means am I bashing the Twins, I'm just saying I would take the much better and much younger player.

Toews is NOT "much" better than Henrik. Henrik is quite a bit better offensively and I'm not sure Toews' intangibles make up that gap.

I'd probably take Toews, as well, but it's very close.

Yeah. And I still would choose Toews instead of Henrik Sedin for the reasons listed above by SSM.
