they would never trade him plus his cap hit is like 4 million dollars higher than Luongo's. we can't afford that

I know right. ill admit at the begining of the luongo trade saga I actually hoped that he would go to Toronto in.a FAIR trade for.both teams with him carrying the laffs to the playoffs. now I hope they rot in the bottom of the east for the 50th straight year.

Not even March. I fully expect the Leafs to miss the playoffs this year again to keep with their tradition.

I think the Mystery Team may be the NJD, with Brodeur and Hedberg all over 40 this coming May, they need a solid top 10 Goalie. Signing Zajac long term may be sign of shuffling Center. They have Josefson who plays a similar role with Henrique, there's a deal to be made there.

Here's more of my reasoning: http://nhlpa.wordpre...go-trade-rumor/

That's interesting. Good, well rounded player. But he's their second line center now and if he's here he's second line only until Kes comes back then he drops to the third line. Unless...he's moved to Keslers' wing. Hmmmmmm......

Laich is waay better than Malhotra. Don't know what you're talking about. Character guy who is apparently a great leader.

He'd likely replace Booth next season.

And as for Brouwer being a former Hawk. Who cares? The guy's from Vancouver, and would give us the depth of a real cup contender.

The only positive in Washington is Oates. Ovy and the Swede are stinking the place out. Oates assessment of what is needed will be critical. Giving up on the two above would be a real stretch but moving Laich and Brower might be gutting their base leadership. They fit with Van's CUP time line but I would want a top 6 under 30 years old as a bottom line. Bottom line is that Van forward group is not CUP contenders as of now. The 2nd line is a disaster.

Pavelski is nice, but he's a 3rd line center at best on a cup contender and he's making 4m...

3rd line center at best? You obviously have no idea.

Last year Pavelski scored 31 goals (tied for 20th with Tavares, Parise, Couture, and Ryan). He had 61 points, was +18, and was 58.7% at faceoffs (3rd best in the league - Malhotra was 4th).

Secondary scoring. Can play Center or RW. Faceoff specialist to make cutting Malhotra palatable. He fits our team needs like a glove. And how is 4M not an absolute bargain?

Again, the only reasons Pavelski could be conceivably available are Thornton, Marleau, and Couture. They have more than enough top-6 centers, and a dire need for a top goaltender.

The only reason New Jersey may have been interested is if Brodeur look like he lost a significant step in the long offseason. The shutout he posted last night against Philly suggests otherwise.

Capitals definitely have potential. Holtby has been shaky, and neither him nor Neuvirth have proven anything. A veteran to help groom them would be nice. Laich is on IR with a strained groin, so that could be the 'issue' that the Canucks are waiting on.

Any one else find it weird that Benn still hasn't re-signed in Dallas yet...he's also from BC and according to reports, Dallas has contacted Van about Luongo.....interesting. Of course I doubt Dallas would give up Benn easily but still seems like an awful coincidence. My thoughts are Benn has asked for a trade. Anyway what would we have to give up for benn???

The following players have been added to the injury/unavailable list today, for "undisclosed" reasons:

Florida Panthers: Erik Gubrandson, Sean Bergenheim, and Marcel Goc

New York Islanders: Josh Bailey, Lubomir Visnovsky, and Jesse Joensuu

This could be nothing...but on the other hand, that reeks of two potential Luongo trades on the table, with MG to make his decision today. I like them both, but give the edge to Florida.

We would have to give up so much for Benn, We don't even really have the pieces expendable to do it. I also have no idea why he would want out of Dallas, they made some great moves in the off season and are going to be a real good team this year. He is also getting top line minutes growing with Eriksson, and now Jagr signing. They also have two young goal tenders. I don't see this team going anywhere but up, im sure hes just waiting for the right deal, hes a valuable player.

Good post. thax for the info.

I think Gudbranson is a stretch. Don't think we will get him.

He was suspended due to off season wake boarding accident where he suffered shoulder injury.

I don't see what you see in Laich so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Only player I'd want from wsh is Forsberg, but I doubt they move him.

Forsberg is an awesome prospect, but does he help us win a cup within our window of contention? I'm not so sure. Maybe.

If it happens with Washington...would WSH dare trade Ovechkin for Luongo + +???? say Luongo, raymond, and booth for ovi

Serious?...
Go sit in the corner and think about what other teams might give up for Ovechkin.

ugh my know it all boss is a leafs fan. I just get to work today and he's already in my face "luongo for hemsky, luongo for hemsky". Chirp him back. It shouldn't be hard.

Do you have a source for those reports? It sounds plausible. He'd be an AMAZING acquisition. We'd likely be throwing in some extra pieces.

I found the players on the tsn.ca/nhl/injuries page.

I speculated that they might be there to be ready to be moved. If that is in fact the case, it will happen shortly - the team wouldn't change their for no reason, and leave them there for a long period of time (barring actual injury/etc.).

I check the injuries page at TSN quite regularly. I'm fairly sure that Gubrandson and Visnovsky were on there as of the beginning of the season. Pretty sure they had a specific reason attached too.

However, their status was both changed to "undisclosed", effective date today. Seems fishy to me.

man, can y'all believe how many pages this tidbit of info that Gillis let out to the Sun has created!!?? I mean, he's got all the muppet Van fans all stirred up pretty good on here. Everyone is speculating that we are gonna get some quality in return for Lu but we all forget that it's his contact that is the huge steam roller that will crush all aspirations in the long run. With the cap going down to 64 million from the present 70 million next season, any team with quality players will not have the cap space for such a deal unless Gillis is convinced/suckered into eating about 75% of Lu's cap hit. Otherwise he'll go to some team that has a ton of cap space and can afford to buy him out if he doesn't pan out and we will be stuck with pylons like Kassian, Schroeder, Ballard, Bieksa, etc + an unproven goaltender with no backup!! Who is gonna be the backup when Lu leaves this sorry city!!! It seems no matter how we look at this Luongo situation, that Gillis created I might add, we are gonna take it in the left ear or in another location of the anatomy, with Lu being totally in the drivers seat. Gillis is wingin' this whole deal and he'll end up with egg all over his face!! Until he makes whatever deal he can, Lu will continue to be a huge distraction until he is gone!!! ...

Visnovsky attempted to block his trade to NYI from ANA last year, This year he has refused to come over from Erurope. He tried to keep playing in the KHL but couldn't due to NHL KHL agreement to respect each others contracts. He doesn't want to play for NYI so he was suspended.

Gudbranson had shoulder surgery due to non - Panthers related activities, (wake boarding) and was suspended. I'm sure he's still recovering from that.

I haven't checked to see the latest on these two stories but I haven't heard anything to tell me their respective situations had changed.

Visnovsky doesn't want to play for New York. And Gubrandson is likely miffed at the Panthers for suspending him (sure, it was non-hockey-related, but I didn't see the Canucks suspending Salo for his achilles injury). A trade would address either.

Again, the tsn.ca injuries page changed both of their status to "undisclosed", effective this morning. Something's up.
