I think you've COMPLETELY missed the boat DJ Dave, people are asking for heavier music, not necessarily Speed Metal as you just (exaggerated) per se. Even a little of the above listed Audioslave-level (as far as intensity goes) rock would do, with less pop music (which simply does not work with nhl hockey). Forget trying to please all parties and try to create a FEELING of greater intensity within the arena, which you have failed to do in all your years thus far. We see it happening in all these other arenas (which have been listed at noseum) and in other pro sports leagues to perfection (the nfl, the nba) so why be so stubborn?
I think this basically reflects a "if it ain't broke" mentality that rings true.
There's a reason sports arenas have all been (successfully) playing this stuff for years...it's because it works. Now, as someone who loves a variety of genres of music, I get tired of the same (old) stuff all the time, so truly appreciate that the team IS trying to be cutting edge and introduce something a little different. But I think the feedback is that it doesn't fit in the doses it's being presented - some of the electronic and pop stuff just isn't a hockey crowd's music....you lose us with that. It's about atmosphere and hockey isn't chill and smooth, it's slam your face into the boards stuff.
Of course, you do have to appease a diverse "can't please all the people" crowd, ranging in age and with different tastes - but the consensus is that something should change. I believe Vancouver/Canada has such a wide pool of talent that we could draw from and be "different" without losing the edge that Canuck fans are screaming for.
And, to demonstrate that Dave and the team DO have a difficult time pleasing everyone - just look at the goal song. Personally, I LOVE it and can't imagine why everyone doesn't. But some people absolutely hate it, so what'cha gonna do? I hope it sticks around.
I think it's awesome that you do listen and answer to feedback, DJD. Well done.
