DJ Dave,

I hope ever single person in this thread submitted a song for you to review. We all have opinions about what is "awesome" and what "sucks" and i just wanted to thank you for Giving a damn... its more than we could say about a lot of people, right?

Very often, I can be hard to please, but at least i recognize when people are at least TRYING to make me happy. So thank you for TRYING to make everyone happy (and not just waggling your middle finger in everyone's face).

Peace out, Go Canucks Go!

That's all I ask you know! Okay, you don't prefer certain genres - either do I to some extent - but instead of just yelling, send in some thoughts! we keep track of all the ideas, and try and use those that fit. It happens all the time...

Really appreciate your support.

Canucks fans, good, bad or indifferent, are the best, and I wouldn't have it any other way...

Bring back the Holiday goal song and see how it goes. Hell, bring back Crowd Chant, or even Ole Ole from the old WCE days.

Ole Ole would bring back so many good memories :)

Someone posted this a while ago and I was like "Woah Ive been thinking this forever!" I think we need a song that when we walk in we feel like we got some serious swag coming on. Like you dont mess with us, dont forget who we are. Kind of a cocky song. Now this song wouldnt work for a few reasons but this song is a perfect EXAMPLE of the kind of song I think would get us feeling like we rock, and were back to rock you again : Allow me to introduce http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCP_E5Rsawc

This is the song played in warmup already, although if U2 must be replaced, I do like this one.

I could be wrong, but people who go to Canucks games could be the most dead, lifeless, quiet fans in the entire league.

Whenever i go to a game (around 4 or 5 a year) I really get this uncomfortable feeling whenever I'm loud or i stand up and yell something. I get the feeling people around me are thinking in their heads ''Would this guy shutup? I'm trying to talk on the phone''. And no i never yell profanities, maybe a few choice words that some might not appreciate but this is a hockey game, it should be expected.

Unfortunately the biggest problem is the people who go to hockey games are more of a casual fan type and not the die hard type.

The point that i'm trying to make is the vibe in Rogers Arena is very hush hush, and that vibe can be somewhat changed with some good music. I find it hard to get into the rowdy mood when Miley Cyrus is blaring through the speakers.

I cant believe you are turning on your DJ. haha... its just music and you have torches and pitchforks.

I understand the POINT you're trying to make but do the ends justify the means?

you guys could use a bit of practice on being respectful because i can bet money you wouldnt say those things to his face (if he was standing in front of you). you know why? cause its flipping RUDE. The dude has a boss and you're NOT it...

Treat people how you want to be treated and dont go thinking your the "Boss of the world".

Im sure youre a really great guys but this just seems unproductive and critical.

i'll bet you money that i would say it to his face

you see, my problem with that whole "music that appeals to a wider range of fans" is kind of a copout... this is a hockey game! not a top 40 dance club. beef up the music, hockey is an aggresive game, so play some aggresive music to get the crowd into it! trying to appeal to what people like to hear on the radio is NO WAY to get them pumped up... are people pumped up listening to ryan seacrests countdown on the drive home??? i sure as hell am, but not the kind of pumped up you want a hockey crowd to be.

the best example i can think of is the saddledome... they know how to play hockey music and get the crowd cheering (although i guess watching that graveyard of a team gets you excited over the little things) but still... least they get the crowd into it. and this crowd needs something to inject them with some excitement. its like rogers arena is asleep until the playoffs.

I don't understand why they are working on the intro song when it's our goal song that is absolutely terrible. Seriously, get rid of it. I don't really understand why they ever got rid of Holiday. I thought it was a bit of a random choice at first, but now I associate it with the 2011 stanley cup playoffs and I like it even more. And then we change it for that garbage vamonos, vamonos song? It's soooooooooooo bad. Deal with the goal song first.
If nothing else, go to something standard like Song 2 by Blur, Zombie Nation or Rock'n Roll Part 2.

I like the new goal song, miles ahead of that Green Day trash. Sounds way better in person than on tv. Anaheim's songs is the best though, punk ftw. Real punk not Green day makeup on your face 13yo rebel punk.

I sent this in as mine for the NU2 thing, what did you guys send?

I chose this for my entry for a few reasons.

I like it because it gets you pumped in a good way right off the bat with the level of musicianship involved. I can just imagine the camera cutting to the boys in the tunnel and Schneider or Luongo leading the boys at 15 seconds. It also sounds intimidating if you're out in the dark on the ice with this playing waiting for the other guys to come out. The whole mystic element ties in with the native art applied to the orca on the Canucks logo and yet it's not overdone. Rush are getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, these guys are repping Canada and are well known and resonate well with hockey fans.

I'm a diehard fan but I honestly can't start a crowd chant. I'm not the type. I'm the guy who will join and cheer as loud as I can once I hear a chant going around my surrounding area and if nobody joins in, then I shut up cuz what's the point? Nobody's gonna join in if I keep going for a good 5-10 seconds.

Vomit moose vomit moose? No thanks. Holiday was more uplifting than our current goal song. I honestly have given it a chance, even hearing it a few times every time I recently attended games, and I honestly can't get behind it. Holiday was better. Keep it that way.

Well, everyone has their preference in music, but I guarantee if you take a poll that the majority of people do not like our current goal song. Just go look on the current youtube comments of this canucks song search and you'll see it.

Wow there are some horrible suggestions in this thread. I almost yearn for our current song. Sorry for sounding like a douche but the truth needs to be said. OP, man.... that is such a awful pick lol. What possibly makes you think that any team would want to skate out to that? You sure you linked the right vid??? I listen to 5 vids and gave up. Sorry for doubting you DJ Dave, compared to these picks your song selection is much more palatable. Korn?? Billy Talent??? That awful Sail song??? man.... All i can say is thank god for Road trips. Thay play Anaheim tonight, listen to what that play and just copy them please.

I do believe you when you say you have never played Miley Cyrus at games Dave, I don't remember exactly which young female pop singer it was, but you get the idea.

I know your job is difficult, as you need to please everyone. I really just wish you would favor the young dude in his 20's more than the younger kids who love whatever is hot on the radio at the time. Venture outside the box a little. Heck i don't even like Metal but it would suit a hockey game better than electronic/pop/techno music.

A lot of great suggestions have been made in this thread and others. Let's get some good rowdy atmosphere into this arena Dave!! Are you with me?!?!!?

Just keep the pop and teenage girl music to a minimum, it's a HOCKEY GAME, People should expect to hear rock and upbeat music, not dance and radio music....

Even the arena where I live plays better music and its the BCHL...

I know if I heard an upbeat rock song I would be a lot more inclined to cheer and stuff compared to if I heard some crappy pop music, that would probably just annoy me and distract me more then anything.

Even some hip-hop would be better then pop or dance.

If appealing to a broader market is the goal with the current music, I feel like it's not going well. West Coast and TheGame make a good point in that hockey and top 40 music do not mix. Yes little kids and a few adults may like it, but who cares? It's not like the arena won't sell out every night if lady gaga isn't played!
Play good, fun, hockey music and most people will like it. If a few fringe fans don't, they don't matter! By trying to cater to everyone you could end up catering to no one.

And if DJD doesn't actually know what kind of music we all want.. well, then refer to the topic title. But I'm sure he does.

Also like the Radioactive song. Much better than the current goal song.

If you're allowed to answer, how much of a say do you actually get in what's played at games, DJD? Lots of people seem to think that the final say is always yours, but I'm inclined to believe otherwise with the Canucks being a business and all. More broadly, what steps are involved in getting a song from the idea stages to actually being played? Who from upper management gets the final say?

Just curious.

Also, for the intro assuming we get some real highlights being shown with it at some point:

I didn't really understand why people were complaining about this DJ Dave, but after going to the Calgary game; and only hearing techno or dubstep: the kids may like it and have a good time. But looking around and noticing the majority of fans not enjoying it . I totally understand now. Just stick to classic 80's, 90's rock. Maybe throw in the odd techno here and there.

Me and another dad patched in music at the Agrodome when our boys played there (off a little ghetto blaster with a patch cord the custodian gave us) wish I saved that mix tape the boys loved it..on good games they'd be bopping and dancing on the bench.Shoot that was fun. Man I want to audition for the DJ. Canuck Idol!!

I'd like Soundgarden's My Wave as the intro song. It's got those first few guitar licks to call everyone to attention, then the drums kick the song into full gear as the players come on to the ice. Also - West Coast connection to Seattle, oceans, waves, etc. etc.

Hey DJ Dave! I love that you take the time to listen to the fans. Like many people have said before, musical taste is diverse and at least you're trying. Me personally I don't mind the intro and goal song you have now, I would like a little more "Hard Rock" in the general mix like, Zeppelin (Immigrant Song) Sabbath (Paranoid), stuff like that. That's just my opinion though.

Keep up the good work!

I think you've COMPLETELY missed the boat DJ Dave, people are asking for heavier music, not necessarily Speed Metal as you just (exaggerated) per se. Even a little of the above listed Audioslave-level (as far as intensity goes) rock would do, with less pop music (which simply does not work with nhl hockey). Forget trying to please all parties and try to create a FEELING of greater intensity within the arena, which you have failed to do in all your years thus far. We see it happening in all these other arenas (which have been listed at noseum) and in other pro sports leagues to perfection (the nfl, the nba) so why be so stubborn?

I think this basically reflects a "if it ain't broke" mentality that rings true.

There's a reason sports arenas have all been (successfully) playing this stuff for years...it's because it works. Now, as someone who loves a variety of genres of music, I get tired of the same (old) stuff all the time, so truly appreciate that the team IS trying to be cutting edge and introduce something a little different. But I think the feedback is that it doesn't fit in the doses it's being presented - some of the electronic and pop stuff just isn't a hockey crowd's music....you lose us with that. It's about atmosphere and hockey isn't chill and smooth, it's slam your face into the boards stuff.

Of course, you do have to appease a diverse "can't please all the people" crowd, ranging in age and with different tastes - but the consensus is that something should change. I believe Vancouver/Canada has such a wide pool of talent that we could draw from and be "different" without losing the edge that Canuck fans are screaming for.

And, to demonstrate that Dave and the team DO have a difficult time pleasing everyone - just look at the goal song. Personally, I LOVE it and can't imagine why everyone doesn't. But some people absolutely hate it, so what'cha gonna do? I hope it sticks around.

I think it's awesome that you do listen and answer to feedback, DJD. Well done.
