:picard:

to the people thinking Gaunce is actually getting called up to play. He's here for the experience.......all the NHL clubs do it.

I think he's just gonna watch. We're pretty deep on forwards, even with Booth out.

Daniel - Henrik - Burrows
Higgins - Kesler - Kassian
Raymond - Roy - Hansen
Pinizzotto - Lapierre - Weise

Having Gaunce on the 4th line (most likely on the wing) with zero NHL experience would limit that line to 5 minutes a game. With our depth we could conceivably roll all 4 lines -- especially when Booth comes back!

Doubt he'll play, but it's nice he's doing well this year. Seems like he has a great deal of potential, hopefully he develops well. I'm sure just being around at this time of the season is monumental experience.

Be surprised if he plays barring any injuries. About the only guy he's bumping as has been pointed out is Ebbett and even that's a long shot. The kid would have to dominate (at this level) and/or Ebbett poop the bed entirely for AV to put zero NHL experience in over Ebbett's experience and (albeit limited) skillset.

And a voice of reason. Thank you.

Any of these call ups are unlikely to see game time. Corrado was luck enough to find a spot due to injury, but we can't expect all these other players to just jump in and be successful (in their first NHL games for the most part) at the level of play in the playoffs.

All this has been mentioned though, in the **Canucks vs Sharks Rnd 1** thread, the Brendan Gaunce Talk thread, and even the Black aces ... thread. For instance, here's my post from the Brendan Gaunce Talk thread:

As mentioned, Gaunce is on his way!

News1130 Sports@News1130Sports
#Canucks #1 draft pick Brendan Gaunce is on his way to Vancouver after his team lost game 7 last night in #OHL playoffs.
Just talked with #Canucks #1 draft pick Brendan Gaunce who is looking forward to joining the Canucks this week.
Gaunce wants to practice with the #Canucks and watch the pro's. See what it takes to play in the NHL playoffs.
Despite a long OHL playoff run, Gaunce says he is healthy despite some bumps and bruises.

From what I know for sure, we've called up Jensen, Archibald, Lain, Lack and now Gaunce. I haven't specifically seen any confirmation of any other players.

Apparently Kellan Lain has been recalled as well. Or maybe he's just coming to Vancouver.

This happens every year, both the call-ups and the threads.

Teams in the playoffs always call up a bunch of guys once their own playoffs are done. They act as an insurance policy against injuries.

Imagine if they didn't do this and you go deep into the playoffs. Maybe in the third round a couple of guys get injured. Would you rather have some guy that's been on vacation coming in to fill the spot or someone who has been skating and practicing the entire time?

It's nothing worth getting too excited about.

Jensen gaunce kassian

You know nothing of hockey if you are actually suggesting that that should be our 4th line for the bloody Playoffs. Jesus Christ.

I don't disagree with you, but you could say the same thing with ebbett on the line.

Lack back from his injury?

Enough to work out and participate as a member of the black aces, but again he's not really expected to play.

Good. Hadn't heard/seen anything about him being "back" from injury so it's nice to hear he's able to condition, practice etc.

Impressive...

For his age and being in that league thats what should be expected from there top line players so thats not very impressive , If he had 30 or more points then i would be impressed

So by that you should agree that Barker slots in ahead of Corrodo?

Don't forget he's also their best defensive forward and eats up a ton of PK time and takes a lot of draws in his own zone.

As he hasn't played Center for a long time I'm curious if they will slot him in there or on the wing.

they put him back to center for the last round of the bulls playoffs and he played quite well. I watched 3 of the games

Would be sick if he got a game in.

I think he could probably handle 4th line minutes, he is known for his defensive play and he's huge.

I'm not sure if he'll do any on-ice practices, but he's doing off-ice stuff while he's here. He did mention an AM workout this morning on twitter and the callups apparently got an 8am practice with Arneil running it, so perhaps he was on ice.

The way our 4th line took some nights off down the stretch I think there's room to add a fresh face in the mix, like Gaunce on the 4th..but for my money I'd like to see Lain in for faceoffs.

Don't forget Chris Kreider played his first nhl games for the Rangers in the playoffs last year, anything can happen. Not sure if he was already in the Ahl last year though, but he had a hell of an impact in their line up.

It's not too farfetched to imagine Gaunce contributing some solid defensive play if he got a shot, not to mention he's already been in playoff mode for a month and would definitely come out with some fire.

Kreider had just completed his college career, I believe. A full 2-3 years older and more experienced than Gaunce

Didn't Trevor Linden snipe as hat trick, in the 1989 series, as a 19 yr old rookie vs the then, very powerful Flamers?
