Cam Cole (Vancouver Sun) RIPS Mike Gillis and Canucks to Shreds - Defends Alain Vigneault

Recommended Posts

No respect whatsoever for this kind of blame game.

And Cole completely lost me at calling Roy a "Smurf" - it's one thing for posters on CDC to use those kind of denigrations, but a "journalist" imo who needs to resort to that kind of cheap name calling is pretty pathetic.

In case he never noticed all three of the other Canuck centers, Henrik, Kesler and Lapierre, are all 6'2" and a combined weigh in at about 600lbs...

Roy was one hell of an acquisition. The Canucks could have used an additional center with a shutdown and faceoff specialist edge, but it's easier said than done to snatch one at a reasonable price.

Anyhow nothing makes me laugh more than suggestions that the team is done, the era is over, the window is closed.

The same thing's been said about San Jose, for a few years running.

Gillis has done a terrific job, he just doesn't seem to be much of a hockey guy. Odd since he played himself once upon a time. He would have made a fantastic President or Asst GM or would have fit in great somewhere else in the front office, but I am starting to feel it is very important to keep him away from hockey related decisions. Everything else, the guy is gold, he is as good as it gets.

I think AV has also done a terrific job, but as has been mentioned, after 7 years things get stale. Its time for him to move on, better for him, better for the Canucks. He will have a lot of success as an NHL coach for a long time.

you've been here long enough to know how the morons are going to react to this season and playoffs..........don't blame management, don't blame players, blame AV.

I said when Nonis was fired and Gillis hired that DN would be the better manager of the two.........pretty obvious now, isn't it folks?

Although he makes some good points, I find the negativity regarding the future very overblown. In the off-season, there is good potential for making a couple of trades and UFA acquisitions and we're back in business. If MG is still around, he will have to make some bold and unpopular moves. He will have to change his policy of not asking some players to waive their NTCs. He will also have to accept that some prospects may have to join the team earlier than expected.

Journalists are extremists and gossip mongers and that's how they make their name. The way this guy goes on, you'd think that the Canucks will be basement dwellers for the next 5 years. In actuality, the team has some good prospects coming up, considering the past few years of low draft picks.

I may end up being wrong, but I still see some good hockey ahead of us.

I hate how people keep saying it's the end of an era. How is 4 years an era? Cause really that's all it's been since we have been a top team with a chance to win the cup.

And to say that we have no future because the cupboard is bare is ignorant. Not enough fans or media even know about our prospects cause they don't bother following them. Pretty much if they're not top 5 picks nobody talks about them.

And then guys like Tanev and Corrado come out of nowhere, and it just goes to show that the media really doesn't know anything about these guys.

Top down. When teams don't want to trade with us, when refs don't fairly call games whenever we play, when free agents like Schultz dekeyser don't want to play for us, and even our ahl team doesn't make the playoffs, we have major MAJOR organizational issues.

DN's tenure as GM of Van is much better than MG's. He added a cpl of good pieces in 2011, but the team that went to the Cup was mostly Nonis..........MG's big mistake was riding Nonis' coattails until it disintegrated, now he's caught with his pants around his knees

Is there really anyone who thinks AV should stay and Gillis should go? Send both packing and start fresh.

In a results based business, AV's playoff record is sub .500 and does not come close to matching the regular season success everyone talks about. Wait until next year when he does not have Calgary, Edmonton, Colorado, and Minnesota to beat up on like he has had for all of those years.

Honestly, I am on board with MG going. But AV and company need to go too. They are both a big part of the problem as are the core players of this team like Bieksa, Edler, etc.

I quite often question AV coaching and I think it is time for him to go, but boy imagine having MG for a boss. I believe that MG had full control of what was happening on and off the bench. Couldn't trade Luongo, guess what, nobody wanted to deal with him. Our main trading partner is Florida and here and there we pick up players that other teams don't want. But, he is probably good for Aqulinies and as for us fans we can only hope that some day miracle will happen. I BELIEVE

article is written in hindsight. If he wrote this prior to the playoffs I give him credit, other then that, he's just like another 20/20 hindsight loser on canucks.com. On paper we had a good team.

Im not so convinced AV will succeed with another team elsewhere... everything that coaching staff was successful with before has already been figured out long ago.

They still havent caught on, as surely as AV still hasnt done anything about Edler's/Bieksa's at times disastrous play. If youre letting stuff like that slide (or it somehow escapes your attention) how could you possibly be an effective coach?
